Haven't been able to touch Robotussin since my high school days of "chug a bottle and walk around feeling like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" man does that stuff taste bad when it's going down and down and down and down and down. NyQuil is amazing, when I start to feel like I'm getting sick I just skip that night's round of posting here and MacNN (to get enough sleep to wake from NyQuil's grip in the morning) and take a few shots of NyQuil. The next day I've never felt better. After growing fond of Sambuca I don't mind the taste of NyQuil as much.
NyQuill is only 10% alcohol, which I presume is there to increase the absorption rate. DayQuill eliminates the alcohol and the Doxylamine Succinate, which is the antihistamine and the reason why NyQuill knocks you out. The other active ingredients are not depressants.
This one's for you, Alcimedes. . .
I was a little stuffy a while ago, and for some reason really hyper. On night one, the NyQuill wasn't enough to really put me out, so on night two I mixed the NyQuill 50/50 with Stoli and chased it with a glass of water. It was somewhat reminiscent of Jagermeister, to tell you the truth, but wham. It did the trick.
Well, malt beverages like Smirnoff Ice and Bacardi Silver are only 5% by volume. I don't know if that equates to double the alcohol in NyQuil, but it's got to be close.

Yeah, but one dose is not a 12 oz. bottle of NyQuil...
lol, after doing a little reading i came across this.
Quote:
Taking 3 grams vitamin C with acetaminophen has been shown to prolong the amount of time acetaminophen stays in the body.3 This theoretically might allow people to use less acetaminophen, thereby reducing the risk of side effects. Consult with a doctor about this potential before reducing the amount of acetaminophen.
if your one of the lucky ones, who doesn't fall asleep immediately after downing some Q, then you may notice some of the hallucinogenic effects of this wonderful cold remedy. unfortunately, due to the highly dangerous nature of acetaminophen in high doses, and some of the other chemicals added into nyQuil, the `good trip' amount is just slightly below the `dead' amount.

i forgot to mention. another great comic, Lewis Black, also has bit about NyQuil. can't remember any quotables, but i remember it was quite funny.

I will add a voice of caution here. Based on recent studies, the FDA has specifically warned against taking more than the recommended dosage of acetaminophen. The studies have shown that, for some people, the amount of acetaminophen that leads to liver damage is not all that much more than the recommended dosage. Even if you don't kill yourself, there is a risk of long-term damage that could haunt you later.
Sorry for the bad news, but I want to keep my fellow AIers healthy and well. So take the NyQuil if it helps you, but no more than the recommended amount.

The problem is that I am hungover after taking it. Even the non-drowsy DayQuil makes me tired.
It also seems to "compress" my sleep. It's as if I sleep deepy for like 5 hours and then wake up all hyper.

Correct. I always take the 24 oz bottle.
I know DayQuil shouldn't make me tired....but almost all "non-drowsy" meds do. Except for my allegra....that doesn't at all.
