There is nothing wrong with giant SUVs and pickup trucks if that's what a person chooses to buy. This is America, and the only reason those things are so prevalent is because of consumer demand.
The real problem is why there isn't widespread adoption of alternative fuels and engines. These things are already available but nobody is willing to overhaul the fuel supply infrastructure to make these things feasible. We could all be running on ethanol tomorrow. However, only a true visionary can get this done anytime soon, but few, if any, really care deeply enough to do it.
A pox upon your children's children for compelling me to continue participating in this silly discussion but...
I belive there IS something wrong with giant, topheavy vehicles that are too big for the lanes on the road being driven by people who have not been trained to handle a vehicle of that size. There's also something wrong with giant vehicles whose insanely bright headlights are positioned exactly at eye level for people who drive ordinary cars. Incidentally, that also puts their bumpers at a convenient level to messily decapitate car drivers when an SUV driver who doesn't know how to handle a heavy vehicle plows into a car while paying more attention to his/her cell phone or makeup than to the road. I see this kind of thing happen or nearly happen every day. In my ideal world, everyone would just walk or ride bikes everywhere. And use PowerBooks.. oh YEAH! Computers! Remember when we talked about those?

i appologize for sidetracking this thread--it's just very frustrated living here...
actually, to make the rant relevant...texans hate macs as much as they love trucks, which is almost as frustrating. people here say that i'm a good guy, but they cant respect me because i use a mac. i dont understand these people...
Don't worry. Texas is on the top of my list of States Not To Take Seriously. Right above Alabama and California. I live in North Carolina, and just knowing Texas exists makes me feel reallly good about that.
When you say "NMU", if you mean "Northern Michigan University" and not "Nazi Mothers Underground", then the answer would be yes.
I'm originally from beulah (about 30 miles from Traverse City) and I was up there a few weeks ago and I heard a radio add for NMU. It seemed to imply that you had a choice between a thinkpad or and ibook.
Have they changed they're policy or was the add being misleading?

There is no choice. If you are not an art major, you get a ThinkPad. If you are an art major, you get an iBook.
Sadly, some random students would rather have iBooks, and some art students would rather have ThinkPads.
I wish the CS department would endorse iBooks. It is superior to Windows for the type of work we do in the CS classes. The fact that many of the CS students use Linux instead proves that Windows is not the best tool for the job.

If someone prefers to work with a Windows PC, there is nothing wrong with that.
Well, yes, there is, but it is in good taste to overlook it.
