Actually there is even scientific evidence pointing to a positive correlation between the duration of breastfeeding and adult intelligence. Children breastfed for >7 months were shown to be more intelligent than those weaned after 4-6 months which were in term more intelligent than those suckled for 2-3 months. 1 month and less developed the least intelligence.

The same is true for resistance to illness.

I totally disagree with that point, threatening innocent people even to help catching one person involved is against the human rights.

This story is totally lame, breast feeding is a natural process, not indecent in many civilisations (at the contrary of ****ing, wich is not in nearly all civilisations). These people took this image for their private use, not for a public exposition.

The state should apologize for what they did to this family. There is plenty of child hurt in this world, and nothing is done for them, harassing some people for breast feeding is lame.

Does the breast have became a pornographic image here ?

first you have to hide the breast of a statue, now you are a pedophilic if you do breast feeding ?

Time to return to more wisdom and common sense.

I have worked in the 1 hour photo market and a lot of this just depends on the employee. Breast-feeding didn't phase me one bit when I was developing, but a few of the employees would treat any picture involving a child as if it held the potential to bring down the angry god of child porn vengeance.

I can't even tell you how many kid-in-bath pictures I processed without even thinking about it.

And therein lies the problem, most of this is just cultural reaction. The only picture that ever gave me pause on the child front was a small child (2ish) grabbing her father's erect penis. That one just screamed "WRONG" in my mind and we called the 5-0 and all that stuff.

But the "WRONG" siren went off in other people for things I would consider totally innocent, like a father washing his >1-year-old daughter in a bathtub. I only worked there for a few months but we had the police there on 3 different occassions, and only 1 of those was valid in my opinion. 1 of the silly occassions the police just left after seeing the father washing his daughter in a completely harmless manner.

I don't think this is an epidemic problem, but I will echo the digital camera suggestion.

people who think and find that stuff pornographic must be perverts.

obviously they are attracted to it and that's why they consider it pornographic.

i look at it and i see a baby in its natural state, you look at it and scream porno.

a bunch of perverts here but i guess that's to be expected from a bunch of teens and college students who spend all day in front of a computer screen

Here's the picture, with a Mary & Jesus picture below for comparison. I have to say, the picture is kinda weird. That's not how you breast feed.

    Hmm.

That is a very weird method of breastfeeding.

Is there some kind of cultura difference noted in any articles you guys have seen?

That picture is very odd to me, it doesn't seem erotic, though.

There is nothing wrong or weird about taking pictures of breastfeeding. Except for the fact that I have heard a few analogous stories about completely and obviously innocent nude pictures involving children leading to criminal proceedings, I would have assumed that this whole story was a hoax. While I could believe that young and inexperienced photoshop staff might call police, I would not have believed that the authorities would have initiated anything. Actual child sexual abuse is terrible and has to be pursued, but authorities have to exercise a bit of discrimination and intelligence.

Re public breastfeeding, my wife and I had the opportunity to visit England when our youngest was about 4 months old. We wanted to take the most of this opportunity and this led to several occaisions when my wife breastfed not only on park benches, but also while we walked through busy city streets in London. What a woman.

Where have you been in the last 20-30 years? "Innocent until proven guilty" hasn't been true here in the US since the TV news media started covering court cases on a regular basis.

And before you start worrying, I'm not some blame "the media" freako who says the nightly news is the cause of all that's wrong in the world. I work for a newspaper, magazine, and book publisher (and some of my best friends work for TV news networks) so I have no real bias against TV news.

But you have to look at the reality of what people are exposed to in this country. When you turn on the news tonight, pay attention to how the news channel you're watching covers criminal cases. I think you'll find that the wording, choice of video/audio clips, and comments from "experts" are all geared toward making you believe that the person on trial is guilty.

Take a look at the Kobe Bryant case. The TV media practically convicted this guy before he even went to trial!!! Then, during the last week of the preliminary hearing, when the defense produced some solid evidence that Bryant is not guilty and the judge even wrote summary comments saying that the prosecution barely has a leg to stand on, all the TV reporters collectively held their breath.

Now you have a case in which the majority of the evidence "may" in fact prove the defendant is NOT guilty, and almost every reporter covering the case was slanting the news as if Bryant was a rapist ... before the case even goes to trial!!!!

Gee. It sure makes me proud to be an American knowing that anyone can claim I committed a felony and I will be guilty until (and in some cases even after) I'm proven innocent.

No, and I'm unequivocal about this: people "who find that stuff pornographic" are wrong. It's the people who derive erotic pleasure from "that stuff" who are perverts.

It's a perfectly normal thing to do, and it's people like you who make women feel unnecessarily uncomfortable about it. You have the problem if you can't handle the situation, so you should be the one leaving the room.

yes it is, but it should be done in private. she should leave the room. i don't like seeing my sister's breast thank you

it's awfully presumptuous that you say i make women feel uncomfortable considering my sister wasn't uncomfortable, i never said anything to her. luckily i never see women dooing it and even if i did why would you assume i'd make them feel unconfortable

i think you have the problem to be so judgemental of me.

you wouldn't mind people seeing your wife's breast in public

You're one of the idiots who like to think of the female breast in sexual terms only. In many ways, I can sympathize with you because you're the product of a society that basically does the same. We're not open in terms of sexuality, and we sexualize things when they have other utilitarian or non-sexual uses. You're just plain wrong here. If you derive erotic pleasure from watching your sister breastfeed, then that makes you perverted as well.
