The rest of the store was pretty much empty. I wanted to buy Civ 3 (they didn't have it). Myth 3 (they didn't have it), Black and White (they didn't have it), and Giants Citizen Caputo (requires 16 MB VRAM).
But the new iMac was amazing. People kept asking to buy them, and were told they would be available on the 21st, but would not last long and to get to the store early. Over the past two days, demand for the machine has apparently been amazing. Apple has a real winner here.
I think it is safe to say Apple has done it again and will continue to innovate like this for years to come.
"We have now completed the digital hub, and we are not gonna stop, we have a lot more ideas."
-Steve Jobs (MWSF'02 Keynote)
Good! This iMac has the potential to do what the first one did, it sounds like!

I really think it will. The design really is THAT good, IMO. The real kicker is - the performance matches it.
This iMac is going to sell like crazy. I bet even Apple will be surprised by sales. Everyone I talk to is just freaking out about this thing!
Even my local reseller here, who normally don't keep much stock on hand, have 40 on order. They are expecting them next week!! Can't wait to post my review here next weekend..
BTW, you notice the 3-5 week wait time at the Apple Store now? Geez, if it was to take 5 weeks from today.... that's Feb 15th before it'd ship!
1 iMac for Mom/Sister
1 iMac to replace an aging blueberry rev d
1 iMac at work to develop on
And when my sister and cousin leave for college in the Spring, they'll either be getting iMacs or iBooks.
And once the G5s are out, one will replace my aging beige desktop! (Sure, I have a Ti PowerBook... but I've been using 500 Mhz for 2 years now and I'm ready for some machines that are FAST FAST FAST!)
I'm at Palisades now, this thing is amazing!!! I'll post more later.

how many do they have on display? I may make a trip up there soon to see it.
Apple better not screw this one up. iMac needs to go on a a 3 or 4 month upgrade cycle now and keep it fresh with little addiditions here and there and listen to customer demand like they have done with the iBook over the last year

We want details my boy, details!!
And just think what will happen when the price of theose rather expensive drives and LCD panels drops a bit. When that bottom end machine hits 999, look out!

Just to think that these things will eventually hit an $899 or lower price target in the future is mind blowing! I payed $1,800 for this thing and to think some lucky bastard is going to have one someday for like $899 or $799 is just sick!
Still glad I payed what I did though. I can't wait for my new iMac. It is hard to believe I am saying this after I was starting to think the desktop was dead. Apple has rejuvenated the desktop.

Am I the only one with an unhealthy, disproportionate lust for this new iMac?
I find myself obsessing on this new iMac. Everytime I walk past my desk, I imagine the new iMac sitting there and how cool it's going to be to go from a:
- 400MHz G3 to a 800MHz G4
- 15" CRT (13.8" viewable) at 800x600 to a 15" LCD at 1024x768
- 8MB Rage128 to a 32MB GeForce
- DVD to SuperDrive
- 10GB hard drive to 60GB (doh!)
- OS X full-time (once I get my iMac, I'll be on a personal mission to NEVER launch or use OS 9 on it...heehee)
- static, "gotta move the whole computer around" to one-finger tilt/swivel
- onboard speakers to two nicer-sounding Pro Speakers
It's going to be a hoot...I CAN'T WAIT!
It's all I find myself thinking about lately, so don't feel too bad, sizzler.
applenut, there were two on display and in between them was the 14" iBook (which after seeing in person I think is VERY UGLY). The screen looks great. To me it seemed just as good as the 15" Studio Display. It looks better in person then it doesn it pictures. The keyboard and mouse are also great looking. I really hope they sell them seperately eventually. The Superdrive is black like the ones in the Quicksilvers. The iMac seemed nice and fast in opening up apps. Anything else that anyone wants to know?
Well I got home a little while ago. Like I said, they're amazing.

Is it frosted or shiny? Was it all fingerprint-y? Could you easily turn it around and pivot the screen to access the ports (and power button..), or did the power cord get in the way? Was it warm to the touch at all? Was the fan loud, or could you even hear that over all of the commotion? Also.. what's so ugly about the iBook? The gap it has just like the Ti? (I think we've all been hypnotized that subPowerBooks are better and thanks to MichaelM, that the new bigger iBook is "ugly" )
Oh, and.. are you going to get one?

Well it looked in between frosted and shiny, I think more shiny. I couldn't really tell since the Apple Store is so bright. I didn't try to turn it around so I can't answer that. It didn't seem to warm. I really didn't hear the fan at all. Seemed very quiet.
Now to the iBook. I think it just looked ugly because all the space around the keyboard looked stupid. Maybe I'm just used to my 12" iBook. The screen wasn't too bad though. Also, I didn't like it when I picked it up since it's a pound heavier than the 12".
He said it's kind of a matte-looking finish, but really nice. Just not glossy/shiny.
It's got kind of a cool, "milky" look to it doesn't it? All along, leading up to the keynote, I kept saying "glossy iBook white!", but this looks really nice too.
Do you know where it REALLY looks great? During those segments in that promo video when it's sitting beside Annie Leibovitz and Seal.
Now THAT'S a nice-looking computer, glossy or not!
