Reduced post counts

General FYI:

In case anyone is wondering why your post count may have dropped by a few (or maybe more depending on who you are), it is because I just deleted a few very long threads that were causing the search indexing to choke. Unfortunately, there was no way to salvage them. Fortunately, they were just "spamming" threads anyway.

No cause for alarm. Continue about your business.

No problem. After all, it's not the size of your post count that matters...it's how you use it.

May I inquire which threads in particular got the axe?

Two of the old "what are you listening to" threads.

That's odd. I don't remember posting anything is those. Oh, well.

Dammit brad... your like "the man".

Trying to keep the little guy's post count down!

J/K... You are doing a great job attending to AI.

EDIT: Hey! I was at 426 before. Now this post puts me at 406... I did not post that much if at all in the "what are you listening to" threads. Something is odd here.

There was also some kind of bizarre bug in the server where everyone's post count had accidentally been increased by 20 a while ago. I remember clearly seeing the change as the counters were updated as then everyone's just dropped by exactly 20 again when I ran the recount script.

I have run the script several times now that things are where they should be. It is consistently giving the same numbers now. These numbers should be correct for now.

Note that, like in this case, the counters are not updated when whole threads are deleted. They only automatically update when deleting individual posts. Thus, any number of lost posts from deleted threads will "build up" until the next time I run the maintenance scripts.

The servers don't reside in Florida, by any chance?

It's not the size of the post count per se, it's really the girth that's important.

My count was dropped by about 30, I had only posted once in the "What are you listening to" threads. Grrrr...I was close to 400 than, but now I'm not worried about it. I'm shooting for the big 500 now.

    You Define Who You Are.

I think it's good that there's someone behind the curtains, watching, and looking that everything goes well.

But I will miss those two 'Watcha Listening To?' threads. I always thought of them as a history. That I would come back sometime in the distant future, and see what I was listening to these days. "Look Son, when I was your age, I listened to Toto. You don't know who they are, eh?"
