No. What I mean is why is there no device that's on broadband that you can "fax" too. That is send the "fax" to something like an email account and it prints on the machine. Mostly I mean the concept of a broadband fax. I can't think of a single place I send a fax to that doesn't also have broadband. So why are we still using the phone line to transmit the data?
everything runs on tone isn't it wierd? like commercial insertion systems for broadcast and cable tv. if only I could make my vocal cords make those tones and i knew what noises i was making.
couldnt someone make a program that could turn a pdf into a fax-like series of tones so that you could convert output to a fax machine? then again, is there any direct way to transmit voice from a broadband connection directly to a land line phone number? guess im being crazy
Cant do fax over broadband, I suppose you are going to tell me you cant do voice over broadband either.
voip - voice over ip - phone calls for broadband
and its ugly sibling
foip - fax over ip - fax calls for broadband
You just need to find a convenient provider that'll provide endpoint access into the PSTN system ( none jumped out at me from google ), and some software ( none jumped out at me from google - maybe asterisk ). Its certainly being done, now, in voip systems. The tricky bit will be integration with a service. Of course, you'll have to pay them... May as well just have a phone. Can you fax over bluetooth?
It'd be nice of the airport basestation supported faxing, and while Im sure the hardware does, Ive seen on indication that there is a way to interface to it.
But I don't want to use a computer. I want one device that I can plug into the network and send and receive faxes to over broadband. I want to be able to "print" to someone's broadband fax machine.

What you want already exists in the form of networked digital copying machines. Drop a document on your office's digital copier's document feeder. The copy prints out on the digital copier in the personnel office. However, I don't believe that there is an industry standard for this feature. Without standards, you are restricted to a single source. Neither do I have any knowledge that this feature is available outside the LAN.
