in possibly the stupidest thing i've heard in a while, LA county said no more devices containing the words Master/Slave to denote a relationship.

i know Cali is a huge state and economy and all, but how lame can you get?

how far does PC go before it's too far?

edit: the worst part is, just three days ago my old boss and i were talking about this while trouble shooting. he mentioned it didn't sound very PC, wondered how long it would last.

i told him nobody was that stupid. looks like i was wrong.

HA HA, i just realized this could be behind Apple's move to SATA drives. Master/Slave are no longer an issue! Steve is a prophet!

To answer your question, PC crossed the line many many years ago.

LA county will have to trash all their hard drives. Look for good deals on ebay.

It sounds like the LA county is very unsensitive towards the SM community.

This PC mentality gets on my very last nerve.

Now excuse me while I get my administrative assistant to call a waste manager to clean up the bagel my homemaker made for me...which I dropped while reading this.

Slavery is the treatment of a human person as an object, to be possessed by another person, and thus denied the very dignity and rights of a person. That is wrong.

There's nothing wrong however, in treating inanimate objects as inanimate objects.

So, you could say that in a way, my stereo system is my slave, my refrigerator, my washing machine, my DVD player, are my slaves, even my beloved PowerMac is my slave (although it gets a favoured paternalistic treatment); the slave disc is a slave to my slave.

It seems to be part of a silly fad these days, one of wishing to recognise the dignity of a person to beasts in the field, embryos in gestation, and technological but nonetheless inanimate objects.

If they find out that many plugs are color coded, well, then we're really in trouble. They might insist that the green mouse plug should have equal access to the purple keyboard port.

I wonder how this is going to cost cash strapped LA county to fix? What a waste of tax dollars.

    Will it come to this:

LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters), Dec. 5, 2008 -- Los Angeles officials announced today the completion of a five year multi-million dollars effort to make the county's computer systems perfectly politically correct.

Over the past five years every IT company hired by the county besides one quit after learning that every part they sold or used had to be relabeled to comply with the counties strict policies regarding technology terminology.

Microsoft Corp. stopped bidding on a deal to license Windows EZ after the company found out the entire Windows source code had to be rewritten. Instead the company will offer Windows NC (no crash) which simply loads a screen that cycles through every single possible color for hours on end. A monotone voice will announce each color in order to make the operating system accessible to the blind.

LA county supervisor Scott Hermich said Windows NC was the operating system of the future because it does not crash and can't possible offend anyone. "I really look forward to using Windows NC," Hermich said. "Knowing that my PC is completely PC makes me feel good about myself."

HAHA. You know what NC would do? Crash. haha...Windows. And even if it didn't crash (which it would) it would melt the Pentium it was running on, notice I didn't say Pentium 4, thats not PC, it shows that the P4 is superior over the P3/2/1. I hate political correctness.

Hey, baby... how would you like to try out my hardware? Take it for a spin and tell me how it feels... I also need feedback for my software, but it's not freeware, so it will cost you.
