Damn right. Linux sucks on the desktop and always will. I don't get the hype around it. I guess it's just "cool" because it's so hard to use. I remember Windows people 10 years ago bashing Macs because they were "too easy." Whatever. If you replace every instance of Linux with Mac then it sort of makes sense but it's going to take a while for Apple to claw its way back to that golden 10% market share. It's revving up though for next year, and looking good. I bet it'll be back to 5 or 6 by next year, and maybe 10 the year or two after.

Still, 95%+ marketshare does not imply absolute dominance.

Dear God, I travel to Germany (read: Damn Cold) and have to read more "Microsoft is Doomed" claptrap.

Mein Volk, Brad is 1100% correct. The Windows crowd is pure and utter sheep. 95% market share isn't just in the market. They eclipse any other operating system or software in the culture. Viruses are a given. BSODs are a given. Having to update twice a week is a given.

Where's the outrage? Sheep don't get angry, period.

Linux users have been saying for years that it will start to be more "desktop friendly" soon. No. It's. Not.

For an administrator to make disparaging comments seems a little excessive.

Hypocrite? You just said yourself that people are entitled to their own opinions. I disagreed with yours and I stated mine. I did not berate you or belittle you personally in any way. If you disagree with my opinion, you are welcome to counter it with other information.

Be my guest. If you are this spiteful towards other people who share opinions that differ from yours, I would be glad to show you the door.

    *sigh*

Everyone, let's let this be the end of this off-topic discussion and stick to the future Longhorn release information. If anyone has anything more to add, please keep it to the Private Messaging system. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

How about picking Windows 2000 Pro? It's gonna take XP years to reach the stability and security you get on W2k (supposing it _ever_ gets there). As of yet I don't know a single good reason to prefer XP.

I take it you only want to use legal software, so you might consider buying your Windows license used. Cuts down Microsoft's revenue stream and your expenses. Everybody wins.

2000 is too new to run a lot and too old for a lot. It is the most stable Windows, but perhaps because it runs the least amount of programs. Many things need 98 and/or XP. And since we all know Windows is only good for games...

    BuonRotto...my point exactly.
