welp, I ordered a power cord on ebay for $8, but youre right any cord will work. I borowed one from work and it fits fine.

I found the VGA port on the back

I ended up buying a 256 PC100 from PNY for $70 and it has a $20 rebate on it. If I need o upgrade to 512 I could just buy another 256 on sale somewhere. I checked all over the internet and this PNY deal was the best. I guess RAM prices have increased?

Im now just playing around with it, getting ready to install the RAM and Panther. I still need an external zip drive to port everything from my 8100 including all my favorite places on aol.

This keyboard is awful, though. I would love to replace it with one that feels like my old apple keyboard....................

in my humble opinion, buy the logitech cordless access do keyboard and mouse setup. the drivers are nothing to write home about (incredibly, even macally's drivers sport better configurations), BUT it's cheap. $70, with a $10 mail-in rebate. if you have any coupons to use with the apple store (like i did), you can get it even cheaper. in fact, i got it for $50 after rebate, with apple's free xmas 2-day shipping to boot.

I reallt dont want wireless but i seem to remember seeing a regular logitech keyboard with both windows and apple command logos on it. Maybe I will try that one. Anything has to be better than the imacs keyboard. I love the old apple keyboard, its the best i ever used. Too bad apple couldnt leave well enough alone..........................................

    On the keyboard...

I think an Apple Pro Keyboard is a fine keyboard, but whatever.

Any keyboard that is USB will probably work for the Mac. For instance, we have a Microsoft 'Net Keyboard Pro, and it works fine for the Mac. The drivers with the 'Net Pro let you make the Windows key the Command key (the Windows key is in the same location as the Command key,) or I believe the Mac uses the Alt or Ctrl key as the Command key.

A little checking shows that Logitech makes the Elite and Internet Navigator keyboards, which are USB and wired. http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?pa...9&languageid=1 Scroll down a bit.

    Multimedia keyboard for Mac

    Basic USB keyboard

And if you love the old ADB keyboards, maybe this what you want:

Use an ADB keyboard with a new Mac.

Thanks, those are all good options. Im tempted to gt the ab adapter but i am going to leav my old computer for my mother to use to check emails so I will have to leave the keyboard behind. I wonder which of those kensington keyboards would be most like the adb Mac keyboard?

Probably the StudioBoard, but it's expensive. A cheaper way is likely to be to check eBay. I found one ADB keyboard for $5.99 with $7.60 shipping, or about $13.60. About $55 with the iMate, and still cheaper then the studioboard.

Those damn threads that change purpose half way through.... grrr.

It WAS just about his iMac's ability to run Panther, which was why it was left in CH. Now I see it's a keyboard and RAM purchasing advice thread.

Quit working so hard to weed these out man, you're making me look bad. Damn new Global Moderator status...

That sounds like an idea. I already know I love the ADB keyboard and I can leave the one I buy on ebay behind for my mother to use on the 8100.

Now back on topic-Panther runs surprisingly well on the iMac, and the internet is faster than it was in OS9. Overall I'm quite impressed......................................... ......
