'04 Rollout
What's the list of stuff that's coming out this year? Steve Jobs mentioned that this year would matter and that it would definitely have an indention as Apple's Twentieth year for the Mac.
What will come out?
I'm think'n the Newton...but not really. PowerMac G5 .90nm update is looking likely, a few more super computer builds from various universities would be interesting. A super computer inside every machine would make for a nice 'oh' face.

Well seeing that the .90nm G5 is already in the xServe I would say a 90nanometer update for the G5 PowerMac is pretty much on lock eh? I think the only question is clock speeds.
Super computers from other universities? I doubt it.
Super computer in every machine? You mean you want them to bring back the marketing campaign from the early G4?
I don't think any one can say for sure what to expect from Apple this year. Especially not this early into it.

damn that is wishful thinking. i disagree with almost everything
powermac - agree, i hope Apple can do it as Steve said 3ghz was coming
new displays - agree. i think something more minimalistic is coming and lighter.
imac, emac and powerbook - disagree, PM has too many fans and Xserve too many holes for me to agree.
ibook - disagree, no superdrive ever.
ipod - disagree, no colors ever. iPod mini will have all the colors.
ipod mini - disagree, i think you can see a pricedrop on the 5gb and a 10gb for the $249 pricetag
no new keyboard or mice unless logical ( as in a display re-design)
PowerMacs, and Displays sound like the most logical, and reasonable predictions. I think those will be first, but I'm not totally sure about the displays. Prices just went up.
----------------------------------------------------------------
WISHFUL THINKING: New 2004 Products: (not all from Apple)
1). Maya Unlimited for Mac OS X
2). RENDERMAN PRO SERVER, & THE RENDERMAN ARTIST TOOLS
3). Availability of High Performance Nvidia 3D graphics cards. (ala Quadro FX 3000)
4). Apple TABLET of some sort. with Alias SketchBook Pro Pre-Installed.
5). IBM busts loose with 4GHz G5 processors (by the end of the year) built on a single core Power5 design with a Dual core designs coming in early 2005.
6). Logic 7 Platinum.
7). PowerBook G5
8). Big Anniversary product (not totally expensive)
9). iMac G5
10). Some more New Apple Software. (ala GarageBand)
11). Software, and Hardware updates throughout the year.

we both know it wont happen, but amen.
PowerMac: 2 speed bumps (top 2.3GHz, then top 2.6GHz).
iMac: Around July, 7457 version at 1.33GHz.
eMac: No change; discontinued in late 2004.
PowerBook: No change all year. Maybe a minor speed bump on the 12".
iBook: 750VX processor in late 2004.
iPod: Larger capacity at same prices.
iPod Mini: Larger capacity, slightly lower prices.
More "partnerships"; Apple licenses iPod design to lots of other companies, and gradually gets out of the business themselves.
Displays: Around July, new displays with better stands.
Software: Several new versions of music and graphics software.
Nothing else. No new machine types (no cube, ibox or tablet).

You think there will be nothing faster than 2.6 by the end of 2004? I find that hard to believe.

if youre remotely right about all this than apple itself is gonna go out of business... come on now--this is their anniversary year, they wont disappoint

I agree. Those ARE important. I'm dying for a Maya Unlimited, I'm also dying for Softimage to release XSI on OS X. And I desperately need a Pro graphics card. The G5 is a darn pro machine filled with a graphics card that even gamers laugh about nowadays.
3D is the one market Apple still has to bloom in. If they're going to make it, I know a lot of people who'd migrate - including my school in part.

Even at its worst the next Power Mac will start at 2.4 MHz and we should see that by month's end.
