It looks like, with not really "an" exception, that pretty regularly for every 2-3 years, Apple has implemented a new processor into their line.

I did have a huge graph layed out in ASCII, but then I had to leave and then come back to find it gone. I had inadvertantly quit the browser the post was in, that was near completion.

    BUT,

Basically Apple started out with the 68000 processor, which was created in 1974 by motorola, and used in the original mac. ~3 years later from the first mac, the 68020 became known. From then on, using various sources...I found that on a pretty regular time frame, Apple implemented a set group of chips on 2-3 year increments (a group : 603/604 line).

So the G5 really "has" until late 2005-2006 before a newer and better chip comes out...G6? (or should it be the X1 because of dual-core technologies?)

Many of you have probably seen the display that Apple has set-up at their stores: A closed Powerbook 12" placed upright in a custom stand and connected to a 17" display. They've added a wireless keyboard and mouse to complete a very compact desktop computer system.

I was thinking if Apple stripped the keyboard, trackpad, LCD, and battery from the powerbook, it could be the "new cube" that everyone has been waiting for (except that it won't be cube-shaped and the Graphics card is not interchangeable). I estimate that Apple could sell the combo drive version for under US$1,200.00 including mouse and keyboard.

Since it shares all of it's components with the the PB 12", R&D is practically complete. Just need to design a new aluminum case. What do you guys think?

The graphics card freaks would complain they can't upgrade their card every six months. Miniaturized components just add to the cost when they're not necessary. Otherwise, not a bad idea.

    Beige User,

That would be an awesome idea. They could just give the mobo used in the powerbook a very slim line case. Maybe they could also implement a PCi/AGP controller in there, it wouldn't be that big of a job for Apple, as they do design hardware.

Granted, this was sarcasm, but for the people who are tasting the G6 for the future, already want one now. Do they even know what it is, or are they looking for a G5 that is simply 1mhz faster that is now called a G6.

It would be "cool" to have a G6...but I don't want that to realistically happen until there is precedence for that to come out.

Bumping a month old thread you started. With no real info. Rock on, man.

Here's a cookie... actually take the whole bag. You deserve it.

    ?

You obviously have experience with this. I'll have my cookie and eat it. What? Chocolate chip? That's even better.

So what your saying is that this topic has become outdated? (check the date above your post, compare it with the subject of the thread.)

For future reference, your post was actually less useful on the topic at hand than the one you speak of. Also, send a PM for stuff like this.

thanks as less bumping will occur without your post,

p.s. not lett'n anything out just yet.
