I like the idea that the iPod might be a trojan horse to control media streamed onto tv from Mac.
Steve Jobs seems to hint that a Mac might be the hub and the content might be streamed over something like Airport Extreme.

If you have a Mac and a set top box of some type than what is the use of the iPod in the equation? That would just add cost to the components and possibly detur people who dont want iPods.

Exactly! The set top box should be completely separate from the iPod.
The iPod is a super-portable digital music player. Sure, it has a bunch of extra cool features which make it better than the average player, but it's still primarily a souped-up walkman.
On the other hand, the set top box should be the link between your computer (storage/manipulation/organization) and your home entertainment system (display). Both of these are primarily stationary, which means fixed networking, or short-range wireless (airport) is the only connection you need... no clunky gadget (no matter how sleek it may be) that you have to sync at the computer, remove from its dock, and then sync again at the TV.
Gee, that's why I said it would support wireless as well... As time goes on, however, more and more homes are built with some form of networking so hardwired will be an attractive option for many.
Programmer, apparently you thought I was being sarcastic with the "drilling holes in walls" comment. I was not. I'd be most happy to drill holes in anything to put an xServe and xRaid in a closet in my house.
In fact I just did that for my Cat5 cable to go under my floor, across to a closet, through two floors (and three shelves), though the ceiling, and through two upstairs walls so my router could be located in an upstars office. (measuring closet for xServe depth right now).
I just don't see Joe Sixpack doing this. Check out this thread for more on Ultrawideband.

Epson showcased a sub $1K portable projector at last summer's Mac World. Could the guts of this 1200 lumens projector be at the heart of a future Apple product?
The addition of Motorola's UWB (formerly xTremeSpectrum) technology as Cringely postulates in TheFake's link would make this the sort of revolutionary product that Apple's fans have come to expect.
