"Bush in 30 Seconds" winner announced
The left is so out of sync with mainstream America! It is time to stop preaching to the choir and pursue approaches that will reach the voters that we need if we are to challenge Bush. This spot does nothing but add fuel to the argument that liberals and democrats are out of touch whiners and will hurt, not help us. Liberal academics and elites do not elect the President. Everyday people do... and continuing to insult them is a script for disaster.

there isn't much to be done to change the mind of voters who counter every argument with "but [democratic candidate] is a baby killer"
so, i guess we should ask ourselves, "does this ad appeal to swing voters?" I think it does, but then again, i am very democratic. what do the swing voters amongst us think?

Hmm, that child's play ad is great. I thought for sure they would pick a war ad. I like it because it focuses on the issue that I think Bush is most vulnerable on - his handling of the federal budget. There are different positions on the war that are legitimate. IMO, there just is no legitimate defense of what Bush has done with the federal budget.
the budget is a wreck, absolutely awful. Unfortunately, voters don't usually vote based on things like budget balancing, deficit, etc, because most voters don't understand what the deficit is, nor do they put forth the time to study the issue. thus, tons of people vote abortion, gun rights, etc., completely ignoring the tough issues.
Speaking of politic is only interesting when we discuss about real issues. it's not interesting to knows who hate who. We are interested by arguments, not rants.
Besides the vulgarity of it, which is a matter of personal taste or the lack thereof, it erases the distinction between the more important issues and the fluffier ones, as they are all treated with the same way of superficial propaganda.
And then the advertising of the issue is treated with the same attention as (or more attention than) the issue itself, and even becomes a contest, like for the tri-county area's best apple pie evar.

Remember back half a year or so moveon had a vote among its users if they should support one democratic candidate. Noone got the majority of the vote and thus moveon as an organisation would not endorse one candidate. That may be the reason why their competition is focusing on whats wrong with Bush and not whats great about the democrats.
2: That said I think its a great pick. It doesn´t focus on Bush as a person but the consequenses of his policy. It sticks to the ball (abeit in a humurous fasion) withotu making fun of the person. It actually avoids what most people are arguing here and stick to the issue
Hmm. It may sound crazy but I think it was made here in Copenhagen. I base that on three observations. 1) The credit card mashine in front of the check out girl is exactly that kind we use here in Denmark and it is a unique design. 2) The garbage truck is the kind we use here in Copenhagen. 3) The building next to the garbage truck in the last shot is identical to one I drive past every day. And it reflects the planetarium that is located just next to it. I´ll try to find some pictures...

From the range of finalists, letting hundreds of flowers bloom seems to reinvigorate the process, as well as generating a bunch of fresh approaches and voices in a world where political ads run dirty and tedious, but seldom as creative as some of these.
That a sponsoring organization is willing to reward an ad contest winner with national airtime is huge.
To determine the tone and message of 30 seconds of State of the Union commercial time might be measured as the ultimate democratic reply of the common citizen, writ in the spaces that only powerful broadcasting empires can normally access.
Here in Canada, one TV Network ran an entire news segment on the ads the other night, overlaying the url and running 5 or 10 seconds of five or six of the finalists. Similar secondary coverage would ensure that even the creators of ads that didn't win were reaching broadcast audiences normally not exposed to independent advertising.
Not sure what the web stats on voting and viewing break down to on an international basis, but the profile of MoveOn and the "Internet as underground campaign" memes got another boost.
Advertising & Media profs will be teaching "MoveOn.org: Impact on Elections and Media"
Poli Science and Government profs will contrast gazettes and pamphlets of the Federalist papers with the modern feedback mechanisms and mark this a milestone.
Art profs will lament the work of Norman Rockwell and head for the edit suite.

I don't know for sure, but I think their tax-free status, and hence the restrictions on their fundraising, would change if they supported one candidate.

Okay I admit it. It was a long shot. But usually I call tell these things pretty precise. One South park episode shows my local bridge in perhaps 12 frames and I instantly recognised it. Later I learned the pictures was from this movie.
I´ll try to borrow a digital camera so you can see how close the buildings are to eachother.
