Exactly my point, Mac OS X is suited to handheld devices because it is well designed and works with simple input.

I really hope they do make the new iPod more of a PDA with input, it would be sooo cool.

Sadly I doubt it. If they add some direct input it will be unfavourably compared to the Zire ("$400 and you can't add software!") and if they add PDA features with no direct input it's a gimmick.

No, leave the iPod as a *very* good media player and bring out a true PDA running X. Everybody's happy.

Because the iPod doesn't need it and doesn't have the power to run it anyway. We're not talking about another iPod, we're almost talking about a cut down PowerBook.

If you go back about... seven years, perhaps a little more, a basic PowerBook ran at 640*480, if you had the money you could get 800*600 - take seven or eight years of further development and... what can you do?

I'm not saying it's going to happen, but it's a long way from being impossible. More than anything I'd say that the cost factors would rule it out - it could end up retailing in the same range as a 12" PowerBook, perhaps more.
