I can definitely see Apple scrapping iPhoto as a deferment to Adobe. Not due to Photoshop, but, as office cleaner wrote, due to PS Elements. There's no way Adobe would have been happy with a free Apple app competing directly with it, and I just can't see Apple messing with Adobe like that given P-shop's stature in Mac-land. I hope that Elements gets Carbonized right around the same time as the full P-Shop.
As far as other new things we may see next week (!soon!)..I expect there will be another digital device rather than a new iApp. Given all the hype this expo is getting (from Apple and not just us), I think we'll be seeing the new iMac and one other new toy.

What hype has Apple been making besides the ordinary pre MW stuff?

They moved the keynote up a day less than one month before the expo. With travel arrangements being harder to make on short notice, Apple has been really hyping the keynote up more than usual to make it up to those going to the show.
I navigated back to this page from the "go" menu in Netscape but went to the wrong page - it was the "thanks for posting" page, and it posted the double.
(referring to Frans post): It could actually also make people go "Screw Apple. I won´t go through hell just to see that neohippie play around with Aqua and PS". I think most people who book airline tickets and hotel are going to MW mainly for the exhibition, not the keynote. Don´t get me wrong. I believe a new iMac (or equiliant consumer desktop) will take centerstage but I don´t see this as an more importent MW than let say last years (TiBook and X) or the one where the original iBook was released.
Perhaps they just don´t want to be concerned with journalists looking behind the black curtains into the Apple part of the exhibition. Or perhaps Jobs really wnted to be the keynote speaker of that other show at the 8. and we just wasnt informed until yesterday.

Well I dont mean to throw anything more into the fire but ... hey why not?!? I was on Macrumors.com I think when I saw a link to this: MWSF Keynote
The info on the page says:
Watch Apple CEO Steve Jobs deliver the Macworld Expo keynote address from Moscone Center in San Francisco. See the live webcast right here on January 7 at 9am PT exclusively in QuickTime. It's an event you won't want to miss
I don't know it may just be marketing but it sounds exciting to me.
How about things which plug into the iPod? That gadget is awfully overpowered (and overpriced) to just be an MP3 player. 5 Gb disk, StrongARM processor, FireWire interface... it feels like it has a lot more potential.

I've often wondered why they called it iPod. It has no connotation at all to music.
Consider iTunes, iMac, iMovie, iTools, iDisk, etc... they;re all very obvious. iPod is far more generic. I think you're right.
I'll wait for the iPod cell phone / PDA model witha 20gig hard drive before I slap down $600 CDN plus taxes for it though.
Regarding iPhoto - I think it would be a good idea to still make this app... just maybe a little differently. Instead of an image editor, perhaps they could expand upon Image Capture and add some photo organization capabilities - think iTunes for photos.

That's because Steve is keynoting another conference EC something the next day. He had to reschedule the MWSF keynote to make room for it.

No, someone called up the other conference (may have been go2mac??) regardless, it is incorrect.
We still have no good reason why it was moved back--and Apple better have a good one, a lot of people lost money b/c of it...
What if Apple makes a camera module (CCD, lens, flash, etc.) that plugs onto the iPod, which becomes the storage for the images. With 5GB, that's a lot of images or even short video clips.
Attaching the iPod to your Mac launches iTunes. Attaching the digicam+iPod launches iPhoto.

Reading through this thread, I believe that additional iDevices could work in conjunction with the iPod to deliver both storage AND power, perhaps even the CPU. Could the iPod possibly fit into a slot on an iDevice in the same way that a battery goes into a camcorder? I'm just wondering whether it's feasible.
