I'm going to have to go with the Genesis. Between the NHL games (92-98 ) and the Desert/Jungle/Urban Strike series, there's really nothing else that comes close.
Of course, I liked the NES too, primarily for the Megaman series, and various other classics. I played some of the early consoles, but the games just weren't as memorable.
Serious Dorktalk:
I also LOVE the NES because it was clearly the product of a team with a lot of electrical engineers and no CS guys. The whole fact that using more than 32K onto a cartridge necessitated a hardware hack to re-align the 6502's memory addressing is just priceless. . . Overcoming the 3-color per sprite limit: also awesome.
Hello? Where are the trailblazers, the pioneers, the CLASSICS???
Feh. Kids these days.
Heh.. when I was a kid it seemed that each of my friends had one of these. I had the Atari 2600 which, when my friends would come over... that's where they'd head straight from the front door. I enjoyed the others at friends houses, but the Atari 2600 for me is hands down my favorite console. A close second would be the original Nintendo. Last is Sony Playstation 2 which I have, but don't play much.
Edit: I also have a Vectrex which is great. I recommend one to anyone who loves classic gaming.
Atari 2600 was the best. Donkey Kong on Colecovision was awesome, NHL '98 on Sega, never really bonded with playstation. Hmmm you know I was playing with my nieces game boy extreme or whatever it's called and it had awesome versions of Galaga, Ms. Pac Man and Dig Dug on and I'd take that over anything.

Biggest impact for its time:
NES
PS-ONE
Atari
X-Box/PS2 tie

The Dreamcast would be up there, but it was before its time, unfortunately.
My personal favorite at the time:

The code to get to Mike Tyson in Mike Tyson's Punchout for NES!
I still have it and my original working NES from 1985. I think I'm going to go play it now. hah

Sega Gensis had SEGA CHANNEL! Remember that? That was the best thing ever, too bad I think it failed horribly.
2. Playstation
3. Atari Jaguar
4. Dreamcast
I own a Gamecube and am Nintendo 4 ever.
Intellivision.
Props to the Plimp.

I have that cart for my gameboy advance... it's one of only two games I own for it. It's really good.
