it will be interesting to see where clarke comes in now after this.
i'm betting dean shapes up a bit, runs a better campaign. who knows. i was surprised to see him come in third though. guess those kids were all out having too much fun to bother voting in the primary.
I'm sure it's going be a crazy week up here in NH. We get to vote next Tuesday, and I think it's going to be hard fought.
First of all, Howard Dean will take the biggest hit from his 3rd place finish. John Kerry, running 3rd in the polls, will probably get a decent sized boost from finishing WAY better than expected from just a few weeks ago when people were counting him out.
The wild card is John Edwards, who also finished WAY better than expected. He will probably take a good amount of votes away from Wesley Clark, but it all remains to be seen.
Kerry's talk of getting rid if "special interests" is ridiculous. What he means is that his special interests are just fine and he just wants to get rid of Bush's special interests.
The dumbest thing about this process is how a small sliver of the Iowa population, largely unrepresentative of the national population, can turn the tide of party politics.
I thought of Microsoft's Steve Balmer while watching Howard Dean as he high-fived Iowa Senator Tom Harkin a couple of times, took off his jacket and rolled up his sleeves...all over-animated to put a positive spin on a third place showing. I would not want such a man to be President.

It's the lemming effect.
People elsewhere find out that *someone* *somewhere* voted for A, and suddenly A is a contender.
Iowa is not a statistically significant voting block compared to the rest of the nation, and yet it sways opinion in much larger population areas.
Kickaha: At least Edwards can´t use the presidency to get another higher ranking job. I mean no american can become secretary for UN and God is a lifetime position
I hate the fact Kerry won and love the fact Gephardt was destroyed completly.

Tim Russert badgered Kerry to ask if he was going to drop out and Kerry refused....this win will take him to Michigan, but perhaps no farther. Ask me again later.
Kerry's making noise. A month ago, who would have thought that Dean would have not only been beaten soundly by one, but two other candidates? It'll be interesting to see how the *important* states turn out...

Yes, definitely the right word. In fact I turned off the TV when Chris Matthews asked, "Where is Dean's wife?" It's as if the notion of a woman who refuses to be subserviant to her husband is foreign to people. She's no Laura Bush for that matter. She's not even Hillary Clinton. In fact Judith Steinberg Dean is the antithesis of the oppressed woman. She chooses to have her her own life and make her own career, and she's getting pilloried for it.
agreed. i think, rather than having her prepared speech about her absence (whihc was correct, but bereft of feeling since a speech writer composed it for her), she should have just said, off the cuff, "i'm a mother, not a prop."

So let's see:
Kerry, Dean: Northeasterners
Edwards: NC
Holy crap, it's the Patriots vs. the Panthers!

Give him two years to work on the latter...

I would hope the media would be a tad more professional.
