Are all of the current PB's faster than my iMac?
I have an original iMac 800 Mhz G4 Superdrive model with 256 MB of RAM. I am wondering if this is as fast or slower than any of the current Powerbook offerings from Apple. I mean, is it? My iMac is decently quick, but it does lag in rendering times and within certain applications. Would it be a noticeably faster upgrade to go with a current Powerbook? A Powermac on the low end?

Oh forgot to mention I'm running 10.3 on both.
800MHz > 1GHz alone would result in some improvement, right?

I just thought that maybe the laptop and desktop difference might be cause for components to be slower? I guess its all the same stuff with Apple? In any case, if its greatly faster I cant see how my next computer wont be a Powerbook...except for that 'ol small penis disorder in which a Powermac would always be comforting...egomaniac that I am. I'm very seriously considering going portable, I hope it is the right move if I do.
However, you can replace it with a 7200 rpm IBM drive.
All else considered, the Powerbook should be faster.

See, I was under the impression that I wouldnt notice a speed boost really...I was told, "it wont be like a processor upgrade."
But with all the video work I do, its getting disgustingly slow. I think youre right that I need to pop in a 512 chip.
My DP533 still kicks ass on DV footage in FCP because I have a gig of RAM in the box.
I am waiting for RAM prices to hopefully come down so that I can put a 1 gig chip in my powerbook. Unfortunately it will probably be quite a while. I may end up just getting 2 512s.
