Nah, nothing can replace confirmed.
Do you think the next time Apple comes out wiht a new product, they will, for once, have enough product on-hand to meet demand?

Nope.

Yup.

I wouldn't hold your breath.
Let's be fair. This is the first time in quite a while that Apple had major problems getting product into the marketplace. It looks like several other sources have confirmed the problems and also stated that there will be plenty of product during the June quarter as the parts are starting to arrive at Quanta. Apple was told that they would get sufficent Superdrives from their source, Pioneer, and didn't. The LCD problem also was not anticipated. Remember if you are a PC manufactuer such as Gateway or Compaq you have lots of options on where to get parts, so if one supplier can't deliver you go elsewhere. Unfortunately Apple cannot do that. They are dependent on third parties coming through for them. In this instance they simply didn't. But you all knew that. You just like to tweak Apple because you LOVE them so much!

What are you talking about? Every time something brand new is announced (G4 iMac, Dual-USB iBook for examples) they can never ship it on time. Ok, so maybe theres reasons this time, but this isn't the first time Apple's had problems shipping something on time so don't say anything about this being the first time in a while Apple's had this problem because it just isn't true.
You think the iMac LCD debacle is bad? Wait until the G5 comes out... bwahahaha!

And the sad thing is you're probably right.
Apple announces hardware before it is ready to try to beat the leaks. In this instance there is a guinune problem, whereas normally there is a short delay until product actually ships.
The pain for Apple will be high, I hope that they have a strong contract for compensation.

shut up, you knew what I meant
New G4 Towers were delivered when scheduled. iPod was delivered on time. iMac final revision (prior to the current LCD iMac) was available on time. First iBook was delivered on time as were upgrades. Short memories people.

You're right, te Quicksilvers and iPods were delivered on time. The final iMac revision no one wanted, so who cares? And if I recall right, the 700MHz iMac G3 was a little late. Maybe the first iBook was on time (which I don't really remeber if it was or not), but the original Dual-USB iBook (500 MHz) definately wasn't. The original TiBooks weren't. Short memory.

1.) latest G4 towers... piece of shit upgrade that had no significant changes and has no where near the sales volume of the iMac
2.) iPod is pretty easy to manufacture. they also gave themselves a month lead on manufacturing.
3.) first iBook was not available in sufficient amounts early on. nor was the tibook
4.) the last Mac update was nothing. no one bought it. it was the same thing they had been shipping for 2 years just with updated components. all of which were swappable components and required no motherboard changes or case changes.
short memory

1) Not a piece of shit upgrade and I bet you they ship more dual 1000s than they shipped dual 800s, given the same interval.
2) iPod easy to manufacture? How many of these tiny Toshiba HDDs do you think they can get their hands on?
3) What about the second iBook, you know the one that is converting some of Ars Technica's most anti-mac bigots like Lord Baldrick? The PowerBook G4's supply was only constrained for about a month or so. That's within expectations for something that was so hot at MWSF 2001.
4) The iMac wasn't a bad deal at all. 700 MHz G3, 60 GB HDD, 256 MB RAM vs the $1499 iMac today with a 700 MHz G4, 40 GB HDD, 256 MB RAM, Combo drive. The benefit of the flat panel? No extra resolution. Ghost trails? You lose 20 GB of HDD space? Sure, it had a Rage 128 Ultra, but so do some Dells in that price range. Sony and other manufacturers still ship Riva TNT2s on some machines.
