The iMac costs the equivalent of US $3000 in third world Asia. I have no inclination to purchase another until Apple gets off it's high horse.

Or perhaps bend over and take it in the

Seriously, $3000 is more than twice as much as they charge here. That is just ridiculous.

    Me:

    1996: Performa 6116CD

1998: iMac Rev. A Bondi Blue

    2001: PowerBook G4/400

    2003: Dual PowerMac G4 (FW800) 1.25Ghz

    * in late 2001, my sister's co-worker gave me her iMac Rev. D Tangerine.

    So roughly, 2-3 years.

    My sister:

    1999: iBook Rev. A Blueberry

    2002: iBook 800MHz (32MB VRAM)

*Replace it due to the pink screen on the old iBook.

I'm a relatively new Mac user but I'm on my second Mac. Shortly after its one-year anniversary, my iMac was stolen I expected that baby to last at least 3 years. I am no using a 15" PB and I expect to use it until it goes tits up.

For me, I was lucky enough to get converted by my aunt and uncle with a 12" pb for a grad present. All I can say is I have seen the apple and I am not looking back.

I've never replaced my Mac. Of course, I just bought my first one in November 2003... Heh. I expect that I'll hang onto this 15" PowerBook for three or four years.

First started using Macs in about 1989 with the SE30 which my mum used to bring home from work (I was only 11!).

First mac in the family was the LC and Imagewriter II in about 1990-91.

After that came the Performa 6200 in about 1994.

The first mac that was my very own, bought with a student loan, was the Rev A Bondi Blue iMac in 1998, followed by a Pismo 400 Mhz in 2000. This time last year I got the 1Ghz 17" iMac, but now toying with the idea of selling it to my sister and going for a dual 1.8 with 20" display. I probably don't need the capability, I just want one!

    1986 Apple IIGS

    1993 Quadra 660AV

    1996 PowerComputing PowerCenter Pro

    2002 PowerMac G4 2x800

...which averages out to 5.33 years per computer -- 4.5 years if you count the two years I've had my current machine.
