The backlighting on the screen and buttons fade out. Now that shows you how love the designers poured over the detail

i mentioned this the other day and got no response:

the ipod supports live-updating. if you use smart playlists, and have one (for example) that has you 5 star songs, you can be out on the road chaning your ratings, and the playlist will auto update. i thought this was only in itunes, but it carries over.

anyways, thats huge for me... pretty much everything about the ipod is cool.

You can carry all of your address book and calendar info on it, you also get 2 or 3 games to play.

It really does have the nicest interface of any portable music player out there. The controls are intuitive, and everything is sorted so that you can access your music in any number of different ways (i.e. by playlist, artist, album, song title).

The large storage for the small form factor is also another big plus. It's really amazing (still) to look at it and realize that it holds thousands of high-quality digital music. Don't discount the ability to have this much storage for your music. I know I would never be happy with a 512K music player or anything similar because the second I had one, I'd want to play some songs that aren't loaded on it. With iPod, you choose the music you listen to instead of the space limitations forcing you to choose what music to carry with you (usually).

This may not be important to you, but it really is nice to be able to use it as an external hard drive. If you need to move data between computers a lot, this is a really good way to do it.

Go for the iPod! You'll be very happy.

    Here's a couple:

    1) Firewire disk for your Mac - extremely useful.

    2) 10000 songs in your pocket

The most important feature is that you get the white headphones. You look cool walking down the street and all the chicks dig the white headphones. Geek is chic.

HOM: that got me laughin dude. i just got the ipod 40 for valentine's and i'm absolutely giddy about it! i mean... it's like 6 in the morning and i couldn't get back to sleep knowing that my ipod was waiting for me to play with it. anyways, i always got SUPER jealous when i see people with white earbuds... i'm SUCH a hater when others have what i want but don't have. but now... i'm part of the cool club. i can hardly contain myself!

oh! i forgot to add my 2 cents. oops! warning: i'm very chatty and i like to beat around the bush so like it or not, here i come!

    PS5533:

like i've already said, i've only had the iPod for about 12 hours and i was sleeping for most of that time, but i cried when it was presented to me. i'm listening to it now (and look pretty silly doing it too since i'm currently using my ibook which i imported all the songs onto the iPod from) and the first song i played was "Color of Love" by Boyz II Men. i nearly cried again when i heard the WONDERFUL sound quality. i'm not actually using the apple earbuds right now cause i haven't opened the package yet and i'm too nervous to. (i'm weird that way... it took me a good hour before i would break out the exacto knife to break into the box packaging. i didn't know whether i could make myself ruin the perfect packaging.) the point is: i'm using the beautiful earbuds i got from bang & olufsen, which are probably nicer than the apple earbuds although i'm not techy enough to know. but i'm sure the sound quality is great with the apple earbuds because simply put: apple does not fail its loyal consumers. i wish i had something more helpful to tell you other than my disgusting overenthusiasm (and premature you're probably thinking too since i'm a newly blessed ipod fan), but gosh... lemme gush s'more!

opening the box was practically a religious experience for me. when i got my first look at the ipod lying in its box, i thought it was the most beautiful piece of technology i've ever seen. it truly commands your attention. so shiny and clean. i sound like a nitwit blithering on and on about an ipod, but i'm not scared to admit that i appreciate beauty in all its forms (at least i try to). i feel that i'm worthy of having beautiful things around me and this is just one of those things.

it's not just superficial though; ipod has substance! who needs instructions? just plug all the chords together. what you see in the commercials is really what you get: you can just take it from its dock and dance out the door (well as long as you either eject it from the itunes window or drag its icon to the trash from the finder). i plugged everything in before i read the user guide and it automatically uploaded my whole itunes library (as well as the existing playlists). i was worried that it would always update everytime i plug it into my ibook because playlists i have for home wouldn't necessarily be what i'd want for traveling, but after perusing the user guide - no worries! apple thought of it all! ipod uploaded my 15.4 gigs (that's like three thousand songs - how in the world could i ever run out of music to listen to?!?!) of songs no problem and i still have more than half of the harddrive space left for songs off my friends' computers and files i may need to transport to/from work/school. i'm just thrilled to pieces about having an external harddrive for my laptop.

even the buttons (the very few that are present on the ipod) just make sense. i don't know how i would improve upon the ease of use if i had to... it just all works. i was puzzled with the volume (cause i haven't opened the remote yet), but as soon as i played a song, i intuitively scrolled down to lower the volume. i felt brilliant, although that acclaim should go to apple for ease of design . i tested out brick, music quiz and solitaire and yep: they're fun!

i gotta advise though: if you do go for an ipod (which inevitably you will if you're already considering it), you gotta GOTTA get a protective case for it. the one that comes with the ipod is okay, but you can't press buttons unless you take it out of the case. i saw a first scratch on the casing and i was devastated until i rubbed it off - turned out to be some kinda smudge. still it was too close a call for me to risk scratching it again. as soon as my significant other wakes up and the store opens, i'm heading to the store to get a pretty pink case!

Congratulations on your new toy! That's a pretty impressive V's Day present.

Yes, the B&O headphones are probably MUCH better than the Apple earbuds, however Apple's earbuds are probably the highest quality "stock" headphones I've ever heard. Even Sony, for any product I've bought from them, has had crummy headphones with their products.

Enjoy your iPod. Welcome to the club.

you can store anything that a hard drive can. anything on your computer can be put on an ipod (even OS X itself i suppose--to show off target mode to friends )

    CosmoNut:

thanks! i'm so enjoying all the bragging i've been doing. yay me! my boyfriend is such a sweetie huh? but yeah, so i finally opened the apple earbuds and they're pretty dang nice. i'm totally in love with the remote now! i actually think the apple earbuds are more comfy than the B&O ones cause the B&O ones have that thingy that wraps around your ear and though they're not as hard and oddly shaped as others, it's just uncomfortable to have something on your ear for long periods of time (kinda like glasses). although i did notice a difference in sound... it seems a little lower or like there's too much bass or something (yeah so i'm not very technical i know), but i'm just gonna tinker around with the equalizer settings and see if i can't fix that.

i assume you're addressing me, so i wanted to say "aww shucks... thanks for the compliment". and if you're not addressing me, then color me embarrassed!

Comparing the iPod to other brand's offerings is futile, the iPod's superiority is unchallenged. The real question is whether or not you want a portable mp3 player. If so, you want to buy an iPod.

That's portable audio player. The iPod plays much more than just mp3s. That's something that gets to me any time I read an article about the iPod. It plays: mp3, m4a, m4p, aa, wav and aiff files just off the top of my head.
