Well, maybe my earlier assessments were off a bit. Seems the Apple Store is now down. IE won't load it at all when linking from the main tab on the Apple home page. Will try again...

Never mind. Words for me now...maybe they updated the index page or something. I noticed some options along the left side of the page that never used to be there (though I haven't gone into the online store in a few months). Sorry for the confusion.

When in doubt, stick with your instincts I always say.

Yeah, those have been there for a little while... dunno when they first appeared tho. I'd say before the TiBook update to combo.

First we have the display promo that Apple curiously lengthened another month. Second, go to the Apple Store and all the iMacs and iBooks (standard config even) are at 7 day ship times. All the Powermacs are still at 3 day ship times. This is a week out folks, Apple does not want a pro customer dropping $3500 on a machine that will be updated in a week.

We are now getting reports that the iMac and iBook channel is quite dry...yet there isn't any mention of Powermacs?!?

If the past regarding Powermacs and Macworlds is any form of reference, they are usually on a 10 day ship time by now.

In the sense of Apple's re-newed focus on NOT being so predictable with their product cycles, I am beginning to think that a "Special Event" for the announcement of the Powermac G5 will be coming within a month of MWSF ending. Also remember that MWTK this year was bumped back a month, it's in March.

    [ 12-31-2001: Message edited by: Bodhi ]</strong><hr></blockquote>

Apple Store Higher Ed. gives the following shipping times:

PowerMac: 5 days (all versions including the close-out533 graphite at $1099)

    PowerBook: 5 days

    iMac: 10 days

    iBook: 10 days

    And, get this, . . .

    iPod: 10 days

So, if shipping time is any indication, then shopuld we expect new iMacs, iBooks, AND (!) iPods? . . . and no new PowerMacs?

    Or maybe Higher Ed. doesn't matter . . .

The alternative is a lot of hoopla over a big G4 jump meaning no big G5 thing any time soon (May at best -- WWDC).</strong><hr></blockquote>

    "it sounds like"?

where does it sound like? no rumor sites have ANYTHING. the only place you are hearing things is here. and here means nothing. one day everyone thinks there will be a g5, the next they don't. it doesn't "sound" like anything

ever think demand might be higher than supply for the iBook and iPod

    applenut-

So you still in a position to believe your source about the G5? You still think it will show?

    &lt;please say yes&gt;

There will be 'regular' Powermacs with SDRAM and g4's under 1 GHz, and 'super' Powermacs with DDRRAM and G4's over a 1 GHz.

I bow to your ability to prognosticate. Never, I MEAN NEVER, would I have thought the PowerMacs wouldn't at least get bumped.

Time for Apple to give Motorola walking papers as soon as possible. Motorola has repeatedly proven they don't give a damn about the desktop cpu business.

    Always listen to your gut.

I was pretty damn disappointed. But like I said in this thread....not too surprised.

    Great call, Bodhi.

Yours was actually the best prediction I saw this time around, because no one else predicted it, it was completely unexpected, and it actually happened. I don't think you can say that for ANY of the other predictions.
