hey Barto... can he find the information he needs if I just give him my name? I don't feel comfortable handing out the machines serial, especially after some of the scam suggestions posted here lol (paranoia sets in). If he is legit I'm assuming he's just looking to see if my 1yr of Applecare is there, if its a Combo drive not a DVD etc.
The only thing a serial number is good for is checking that the product is not stolen and the actual specifications of the product. The serial number checker I used didn't come up with names, maybe Apple's systems outside Australia are different though.
Asking for serial numbers is fairly common to prevent eBay scamming, and I wouldn't be hesitant myself. He MIGHT be able to use it to "trade"... so it's a judgement call on your part.
