Worst advice ever! My advice for you: don't go on a road trip!

The last worst service I can remember was at a Denny's and my friend (a waiter who always tips 20+%) would only let us all leave one penny for a tip.

Yeah, if you want to make a statement, do *NOT* leave no tip at all. The waitdroid can all too easily just explain it away that *you forgot*. Ie, it's all the nasty customer's fault, they're blameless and perfect, boo hoo hoo.

*Always* leave *something*, just so they know that you did *not* forget, that you actually mean to do that to them on purpose, and for good reason.

Years ago, before it descended into anarchy, I worked in Somalia for 4 months doing a biological survey. This young Brit I worked with was keen on one of the two sisters who cleaned our house so wanted to take her on a date. To our surprise she agreed to go, but had to bring one of the our Somali assistants along for a chaperone. So the 4 of us drove out to some place that they said was good for Somali food. Since Somalia was once a colony of Italy the main dish was spaghetti, but it was pretty bland stuff...just a bit of watered down tomato sauce. We had learned to order a kind of spicy meat stew along with it that made it much more palatable when mixed together. So this night we ordered the spaghetti and the stew as usual. The Somalis just let us do the ordering and we got 4 of the same thing. Well, after we got the spaghetti they brought out 4 huge roasted goat legs. Felt like Fred Flintsone being served some huge dinosaur leg. Even one would have been to much for the 4 of us. The Somalis weren't fazed at all, like they ordered food like this all the time. We didn't know if it was our mistake or the waiters so we just tried to eat it. Was very tasty, but no way to finish it all. Then the Brit and I started to worry about how much all this was going to cost since we hadn't brought much money and we had damn near ordered the whole animal! It turned out the whole dinner only cost around $4 and no need to tip either. After that we were much more careful when ordering food!

Agreed. I don't know about coffee, but their tea is the worst I've had anywhere. The regular (non-veg) meals are pretty bad too.

Incidentally Finnair is the only airline I have used a lot, since I usually only travel inside Finland.

The one positive thing about the airline is that I trust their pilots more than other airlines'. Many of their older pilots had their previous job at the Finnish Air Force.

i don;t trust their pilots. they have really old planes, and i can't imagine their pilots being any faster reacting than their hostesses (that is slow). but more than the old planes, i dislike the unfriendly attitude they have (and that coffee. believe me gon you don't want to try it). well - i can understand if ONCE a vegan / vegetarian meal order hasn't gone thru (because tech problems bla blah whatever) but not 4 times of 4.

maybe i'm just spoiled with better attitudes (british, alitalia, air france, aer lingus.. you name it) and the planes having always a few spare special meals, but still .. they scare people away.

a hostess can sue the passanger who bugs them (at least on british), i wonder if the same right exists for the passangers .. at some point i think i might consider the unfriendly attitude as a threat etc.
