Just bought a Lacie 160 GB external drive, hopefully it's good?

    I like it because it has options: FW 400 & 800, USB2, 8MB caching.

This quietness people have been vouching for is a bit odd.

Lacie 120 GB drives are not what I would call quiet.

It's not an annoying sound but it is noticeable even after spinup.

I have two and when they are both running it is very loud. But even one is loud.

Now my question is are the people that claim it is quiet also using it with a desktop PowerMac? I'm using it with an iBook or a CRT iMac, both of which are truly quiet.

I suspect if you are already using a desktop Mac with fans and big hollow case, particularly if you keep your CPU up on your desk, then, okay, I can see you not noticing the Lacie.

Mind you, the noise isn't enough to warrant not purchasing it, obviously as I loved the Lacie enough to get another.

I like the sound in fact, kinda sounds like the interior of a TIE Fighter hauling ass.
