iPod mini doesn't show up in itunes with usb 2....wtf???
Hi,
I just got a mini today and I want to transfer stuff from my old ipod directly to the new one so I plugged the mini in the usb port because I'm using the fw port for the old one.
the mini mounts but it doesn't show up in itunes.
Did apple restrict use with the mini with itunes over usb 2?

No, they just won't let iTunes see two iPods at once so you can easily copy between them. You need shareware to read music off an iPod, ya can do it with Apple software.

Oh, I think I didn't explain myself well. THe music on my old ipod is actually on the data part (not in the music sector) but that is another story.
Just somehow why doesn't the usb 2 work with the ipod?
http://www.apple.com/ipod/
"*Syncing with USB 2.0 (Windows-only) requires optional USB 2.0 + FireWire Cable."
because it should work and they just didn't let us.
the ipod actually mounts and all but just not in itunes.
Any way to go aronud this?
So I paid for this useless usb2 cable??????
Does the mini show up in iTunes if the iPod Classic is not connected?
that is, even if only the mini is plugged in, it still won't be in itunes, it'll mount as a volume on the desktop, but not show up in itunes
I wonder if the same is true of the iPod Classic...

interesting - USB works for mounting as a HD but not with iTunes.

Same is true of iPod classic.
therefore Apple RESTRICTED USB 2 use.
fvckers...
The hard drive mounting just works, probably as a standard USB Mass Storage Device

10.3.3 should let iSync and iTunes sync with iPod/iPod Mini's through USB2!
hurrah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What I'm actually wondering is... why did you buy the USB cable in the first place? It says right in the product description that it's meant for Windows users.

The iPod mini comes with the USB 2.0 cable.
I usually have my isight plugged in in the fw port.
my other usb port is always free, so it would make more sense for me to use the usb port.
and I'm soon getting a fw external hdd. It would be a pain to plug and unplug every time.
no?
This could all be fixed with a Firewire hub.
You could always go with a USB 2.0 external drive or pick up a firewire hub and you'll have as many firewire ports as you'll need.
