I bought my ipod in the UK and have been told by Apple that due to European law the maximum volume is lower then that of the rest of the world and I would like to increase the maximum volume if possible - does anybody have any ideas on how I mught be able to do that please?!?

You get new, more sensitive headphones - more sound pressure per milliwatt input than the standard, though I thought the low power BS is france only. Hm can't find the specs on the ipod sound output and headphones, they used to publish this for the first gen ipods.

You could also buy/build a portable amplifier, though this would defeat the purpose of having an ipod - having a small portable music device.

You can also get isolating/closed headphones, where outside noise is reduced so you can hear your music better.

the uk and europe volume limit is 105 db.

do you realize how loud is it?

in work places with 85 db or louder, you by law need protection from noise. and the damage starts at lower than 85 db in long exposures.

if you listen to the ipod with the eu allowed 104 db every day, you very probably have hearing problems by the time you are 30.

i'm not saying i like the idea that they need to regulate what is too loud for you, i think you should be able to decide yourself. but what you'd do with the volume over 105 db, is only damage to your hearing.

After a continuous 16 hours a day. I work as a soundboard operator and have no problem cranking it up to 100db. Of course that is just for rock songs and with 2 hour performances. Heck, I measured before and the appluase was more than 100 db. Judging that the iPod battery life is 8 hours, 90db is technically still be safe although I think that is plenty loud if you have good headphones. If you are using cheap headphones, they may not be efficient and will eat up power without giving you volume.

    You, sir, are a whacko.

You talk about treble inconsistencies in AAC and MP3 formats, try to determine what the best music encoding method is... and you're going to crank up the iPod's volume output like THAT.

I think your italian pants are on too tight.

I've never done it myself but I don't understand why it wouldn't be ok.

It's software manipulation of audio, I think the software volume controls renormalize the track to a higher volume. It's essentially like using an EQ or sound affects, you are changing the characteristics of the actual sound, thus manipulating the encoded data.

In effect, you are altering the purity of the sound file. Anyways, I keep my itunes volume slider at 100% and control the volume from my speakers (and use no EQ/sound effects unless a song really has equalization problems).

Think of it as using digital zoom on a digital camera (just not quite as bad).

    Problem solved.

From what I understand this seems to be adjusting the volume of the songs the forbidden way that I proposed. Is it?

And the battery voltage, is it an indication of how much battery is left?

No It's taking a limitation off the iPod that is put on through software, not your away at all. But combine the all three and you have LOUD music

The battery voltage is an indicator of *drum roll* battery voltage Once It drops too far (I think it dies somewhere in the two's if i remember correctly) it shuts off because the voltage level can't sustain the iPod.

Well, they aren't really tight per se... I think they're a good tightness.

Baggy pants are just wrong imho. They do not look elegant, they make you look clumsy if anything, and really quite rediculous. What is the point of baggy pants? Doesn't it get in your way? (biking, running or even just walking or sitting down)

to me it's like having long hair and it constantly gets in your eyes vs. short trimmed hair.

    That's quite a rediculous claim.

So you're saying that people who wear normal jeans or businessmen or people who wear dress pants have their packages squished?

Moreover, people who tend to wear baggy seem to be the juveniles. I doubt protecting the package is a big deal for them.
