I just don't think this would (will) happen. There are too many advantages in having such a small form factor; it will not disappear. For business travelers the 12" PowerBook is a godsend.
You haven't been following: with a different aspect ratio screen, a 16:10 14" panel PowerBook could be made that was slightly NARROWER than the current 4:3 12" panel PowerBook, and only 1.5" wider.
The different aspect ratio means the extra size and higher pixel count could go into the width, not the depth. It could therefore be even more suitable for airline trays...
