Motorola makes them, they go in apple's laptops and all in one macs.
That aside, that's terrible news, TechTV is one of the only stations I watch. I remember TechTV used to be part of ZDnet TV, that is, the screensavers and a couple other shows were on it.
But ya know, maybe this'll be a good thing, As long as they keep the original programming, Call for help, fresh gear, screensavers..etc. and as long as they keep Leo, then all is well in the cosmos. TechTV does have some pretty awful stuff on sometimes, it could use a trimming.
G4 is the worst excuse for programing ever. It is a channel devoted to video games, but it is devoid of any redeeming characteristics. I stopped watching Tech TV about a year ago and won't miss it one bit.
If it means more bandwidth for cable users and they continue with the trend, combining such worthless channels as Oxygen and Lifetime... or Food Channel and Travel Channel... I will be THRILLED.
Might even make me not mind paying that extra $10 a month when my 6 month discount period expires.
the techtv folks are probably thrilled because they pretty much are limited to SAT right now. the good shows will continue. the fact that it was sold is a good sign i would think.

I've been thinking about a video game channel. It shouldn't be all that hard to run, and most of the material would be in-house so it could survive with pretty little advertising.
- focus on the popular competetive games, show video material from tournaments and also host your own tournaments
- employ regular expert commentators (say, Counter-Strike guy, Starcraft guy) that have pro tournament experience
- lots of high level gameplay and strategy content
- goal to improve the viewer's gaming irrespective of their current skill level
- separate programming for novice and intermediate players so there will be few one-size-fits-all compromises in style of programming
- instant information about significant game and patch releases - this a magazine cannot do
- reviews, trade shows, *intelligent* interviews with game makers and top players where the interviewers really know the games
- viewer participation in massive elimination tournaments, etc.
Who here watches 'X-play' (formerly known as Extended play) ?
it's 30 minutes of adam sessler being awkward in front of a hot girl while they, yes they she's a gamer too, talk about games.
It's a novel idea, especially for a tech related channel to broadcast, My little brother watches the show religiously. The problem with this is, most gamers are adept computer users, and they get all their game information from the internet anyway, so, my brother included, pretty much everything he sees on the show is old news.

xplay is sooo bad it's sometimes fun to watch! (especially when they do skits) if TechTV has an achilles heel it's they have a lot of people on air who have no business being broadcasters. morgan webb is the queen of of horrible on camera, when she looked like the daughter of porn legend seka it wasn't as unwatchable....
i can live without leo laporte too. although he's a huge mac supporter.
Well considering Microshit already owns 7% of them and may buy them (after they buy Disney) this is potentially unnerving. Leo Laporte is an acquired taste, I like the screen savers they way it is now!!! XPlay is retarded though, and remember that dorky little guy they used to have on call for help, chris Brillo or something? They have good and bad people. Now Megan does a geek chic proud. And frikkin' Robot Wars come on who watches that. I miss Sumi Das too she's a hottie.
My understanding was that they are just being bought and merged, not "going away." Anyway I'm worried because every station I know that comcast owns is only on comcast. I have RCN cable at home and if comcast is controlling the station it will probably get pulled off my line up. This happened when comcast bought New England Cable News (NECN). A few weeks after they were bought the station was gone from my RCN lineup.

We don't get TechTV here in the Great White Oppressed North, but I've never understood why Apple's never started/seed funded a net based all-Mac TV channel.
They own Quicktime. They build Xserves. Seems to me they could loop taped product demos from Apple store presentations, seminars from Mac software vendors and launch a DV-based daily news program for less than anybody else. Forget TNN's endless Trek marathons, what we want is to see a MacWorld Keynote marathon.
It's doable, needed and would be a great show of faith in Quicktime. Get a free subscription to MacTV with every .mac purchase.
And it would probably do more for Quicktime TV and Xserve sales than constantly begging CNN to provide their feed in QT.
It's called Spike TV now, it's the 'first network for men' and they don't play trek nearly as much as they used to, unfortunately! trek(TNG) is awesome.
My friend just got the whole first season of TNG on DVD, we've been watching at least an episode a day, it's really awesome, sci-fi at it's best.

I like Trek too, but having a Mac channel we could call our own would be priceless.
Thats right ttv is now property of comcast and they are going to merge it into g4 this is a sad day imho (
what do you think
Funny enough, I have Comcast Cable and DON'T get TechTV... this better change or I'm going to slap Snyder across the forhead... Especially since People in the suburbs (1 block away from me) get it on Comcast.

I think there would be a market for this.

As someone said above, Comcast is run by Nazis.

techtv spends an enormous amount of time on apple products, far more than the percentage of mac to pc users in the world.
