Well since people seem to be pretty edgy about the no-hardware Mac year. I was wondering...have any of you long time Apple users, seriously considered switching? (Not becasue of slow hardware updates for you guys in the g4 500mhz dry spell) If you didn't, but you thought about it, why did you stay Apple? If you did, why did you go windows? And who is on the fence, and why do you want to?

(I understand this will have slightly skewed results but you know)

If you paid me to use Windows, I still wouldn't do it. I've not really thought about it even once since switching 4 years ago and since Jaguar was released all doubt about ever staying with OS X permanently were erased.

I used Macs all my life but bought a Windows computer in 2002. I used it for about half a year and couldn't stand it. I used my old CRT iMac until I could get a new Mac.

Since I'm not a numbers-obsessed Spec Whore, the answer would be no. Product releases - or lack thereof - doesn't factor in one single bit to any decision I would ever make like that.

If someone's that much of a fair-weather geek ("I need a 3.0GHz G5 and 30" display TODAY...waaah!"), then they can go buy a Dell or make your own XP box I guess. Good luck and God bless 'em.

Apple's quietness lately is merely a small, minor gripe and annoyance, and hardly anything that would make a member of the truly faithful "abandon ship". Anyone that fickle and chuckleheaded, I don't wanna know 'em anyway. Ugh.

I'll never use anything other than a Mac, I'm sure. Why would I? In fact, if I were without a computer I'd pay $1500 for a 2-year-old Blue Dalmation iMac before I'd use a brand new FREE 2.0GHz PC with XP Professional and all the tricked-out add-ons.

    Honest.

    Weird, huh?

I used a mac my whole life, and while I have used a PC for sometime just because it was the only computer I could have in my room, it never won me over. I think that it depends on how much you paid me though I mean 1% of Bill Gates' money and I won't touch a mac for a year. Hell I won't use my iPod for a year for that!

Honestly, OS X is just so much better than windows it's disgusting. Just little things that do it for me. It's hard to describe but even with knowing windows since 6th grade (12th now) and OS X since 10.0.0.4 (one to many 0's?) OS X just gives you a nice home feeling.

I have always purchased my own Mac equipment and software for any job I've worked at and continually prove by example that PCs are unnecessary in all aspects of my work.

I have used Windows/PCs a ton but never as my workstation. I am definitely expert/pro around Windows but utterly avoid it like the plague that it very much is.

I am biased now but was not in the last 20 years, always keeping my options open. Of course, learning how to effectively use and manage PCs is a good skill to have, it's just not something I based my living or workflow on.

Good skill on a résumé is not the same as a good workflow or business choice.

Using PCs is right up there with changing tires. Good to know how to do but not something you want to do all the time, unless you are a tow truck driver, in the case of changing tires.

There is money in tech support for PCs that's for sure, and not merely due to the larger market share - if PC/Mac prevalence were 1:1 I bet PCs would be like 80% to Mac's 20% (if that!) need for support.

I was a Pc person for a while. But a friend made me switch to a mac. The only way for me to go back to windows is for apple to be bankrupt.

I did consider it, I played a lot of games on my brothers PC last summer, and spent a lot of time using it in general. Once I started getting used to it, I thought about switching, but ultimately when I returned to my iMac it was just...way better.

    Nope.

I'm not a gaming fan, so I've never had that pull (I rarely even haul out my PS1 anymore), and there's only been one OS that's given me that same sense of "wow".... NeXT.

Luckily, they convinced Apple to let them take them over, *and* give them 400M$ to boot.

I use a PC for 90% of my computing. It works fine, it is more stable then my iMac, and it gets the job done running Linux. I could not ask much more from a computer. But if we set aside the PC thing and dive into the software side of things... I will never switch back to Windows, it is a good OS and all but after diving into Linux I never want to go back.

    Nope.

Not even in the lowest of Apple's history did I ever consider purchasing a Windows box. I was going to use my Mac until it could no more. Today Apple is in a much, much better position. Why in the world would I want to succumb to Windows?

I guess I should give a reason or two why I wouldn't use Windows. Last night, I ssh'ed into my server (running Panther, of course), curl'ed all the stuff I needed, compiled DBD and DBI for mysql and got movable type all up and running without a hitch. At the same time, I was able to work on an article I've been writing and iChat with people. Can I do this on Windows? Sure but I've got to figure out how to install standard UNIX stuff that's pre-installed on OS X before I could even get to that point. Could I do it on Linux? Sure, but I have limited time to get things working right and, like it or not, I've got to use Word, at least for my legacy stuff.

OS X is the best of both worlds. And it looks purty.

I know I'm about to buy a new Mac when I start seriously looking at PCs. This has happened every single time I have bought a Mac. First time it was 1993, what was I going to buy a Packard Bell or a Performa 630DC? Well I got the Mac. Side note, you think the current waiting game is tough, I waited 4 months for my Performa to ship. Next time was a HP or a Moto StarMax. Again I went with the Mac and again I waited forever for it to ship. Luckily for me Moto speed bumped the model while I was waiting from a 160 MHz 603e to a 180MHz 603e. Then it was a Sony laptop or a Pismo. Pismo won yet again.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I always seriously consider a PC and then buy a Mac.

I've considered picking up a cheap eMachines type box because my work involves odd little bits of software that are PC only, and it's easier to run them PC native than VPC. (Mostly media control devices).

But I have no interest in using a PC as a general use machine.

i've realized early in 84 that apple had the best user interface and allowed all people to be empowered. If i switched it would be for a complete personal meltdown. so then i knew it was the end of computers for the rest of us. Windows is used in my house only as the last resort. spam, virus, hangups, glitches its just bulky fluff.

never let go of my reality therefore won't let go of my mac.

never...i'm thankful everyday there is apple

never...without mac and apple, computing would be in prehistoric sludge. Hello, you're waiting for MS and windows to make your life actually better!!!! yea right.

I use my PC almost as much as I use my PowerBook.

I just built a new Athlon 64 gaming rig and it rocks.

XP is easily the best OS MS has put out so far.

I definitely prefer my Macs and OS X, but PCs and Macs have much more similarities these days than differences.

Both platforms are very usable and I've found that build PCs myself has helped my overall computer knowledge tremendously.
