No, unfortunately, Brandt has been able to keep this little paranoid FUD kicking for *two years*.

Do a google search for Matt Cutts. Note how often his name comes up as a spokesperson for google up until two years ago? He's personable. He's eloquent. And he loves working directly with people, and is an amazing teacher - he can explain anything to anyone so that they can understand it.

He *loved* that part of his job, and Brandt smeared his name everywhere so that he couldn't do it anymore.

Brandt is a world-class asshole, a crank, an idiot, an outright liar, money-grubbing (what? you didn't realize it was his business' site that he was upset about not being ranked highly enough? *gasp*) ****wit that managed to remove a good deal of joy from a friend of mine's working life.

Not that I take it personally or anything.

    The maggot.

Naturally, they have to storage all that email--hence the 1GB gimmick. The 1GB is really for THEM as much as it is for you.

If gMail is an April fools joke, it's one of the best ever...in retrospect, the 1GB free storage, the fact that you can't register an address yet and that the Gmail 'subsite' was kind of thin would seem to be...suspicious.

But I could have sworn that gMail was something I heard a rumor about a while ago...

And according to Forbes, it's for real.

Wow...a gig of storage. I've stuck with the same Hotmail address since 1997 (despite its having become probably the worst free email service)...if gMail is any cop I'll be trading over...

    Suprise, suprise...

Google keeps your emails in Gmail indefinitely even after you "delete" them from your mailbox and unsubscribe.

I can just see Ascroft getting a subpoena to use google's technology to scan the entire database for "subversive" emails the same way google uses emails to target ads.

I'm not surprised because I read that in the TOS when they first came out. You all read those right?

Then go whine about Ashcroft, and don't use Gmail.

Personally, I disagree with the indefinite storage clause, but Google is an information company. No one's forcing you to use Gmail, just don't sign up.
