The 3/5ths compromise was about representation in federal government, not abolition.
The Southern states wanted slaves to count as a full person towards population. The Northern states did not want slaves to count at all towards population.
I see no problem with gays getting married. I see no reason why it degrades marriage in general. If a man falls in love with a man or a woman falls in love with a woman, it is still love, It really shouldn't matter what sex the two people involved are. Does anyone else find it surprising how much press gay marriage has gotten from politicians? They seem to love it because it takes the focus away from real problems, like the enviroment, or citizens rights, or Iraq, or terrorism. It's just a topic which postpones how long it is until the politicians have to deal with important things. I am not saying that it is not important that gays be able to marry, but I am saying that there is nothing wrong with it and that for no reason should it be with held from the gay people of america. Arn't all men (and women) created equal? Denying gay people the right to marry is like secluding the gay people from the rest of america, just like we have secluded many groups from being a true part of america for a long time now.

No...that's the very foundation of a REPUBLIC. Double-check what you write.
