AI: New Pbooks and iBooks this week

Posted:
in Future Apple Hardware edited January 2014
Well AI has new news of a completely revamped portable line coming April 19th. Sounds good to me! This is going to be incredible if they really do update all those products at the same time.

I agree, but it seems like every other rumor (AI ones included) gets discussed here.

So, if the 7447A is indeed going to be used in this update, here are some technical details about this chip. The maximum speed appears to be 1500 MHz. See also here. Note in particular:

    New Power Management Features

    * Clock frequency can be changed dynamically

    * Temperature sensing diodes included to monitor die temperature

I don't know what of a difference we would see in practice from the second feature.

Looks like MacNN is corroborating this info.

As I posted in the News Comments forum:

    MacNN = AppleInsider

Same sources, therefore no independent confirmation. However, the fact that they are putting the 'Book story on MacNN as well, which doesn't usually post rumors, means that the editors are very confident in the accuracy of their source(s).

I've been harping on the quality of Apple's laptop LCD's for a bit now.

Could these new PB's incorporate a better, slicker LCD display not only to keep up with industry standards, but to better differentiate it and the iBook line?

you know its funny how we went dry for 4 months with nothing to talk about except Pmac G5's, and now all of a sudden we know basically everything prior to this release.

Everything? Not one of the reliable rumors sites (Think Secret, AI, and MacRumors) has any specs.

    I look forward to Monday.

The less reliable sites have been speculative about the specs.

    Update

In reference to the previously published announcement date, sources have noted that while certain parties may be able to order the new portables on Monday the 19th, Apple may not announce the products officially until the following day (Tuesday the 20th).

That was an amendment posted to the story AppleInsider ran about the PowerBooks. Could it be that the 'books are announced tomorrow at the NAB Apple Event, and are available Monday? Now I am speculating

This could be a false thing to get the pressure off apple for the late G5 updates on the Pmac. But, if true this will be a huge milestone for apple. With a speed of 1.5 Ghz the G5 Pbooks may reach a speed of 2.0 Ghz.

Sorry, but can't read much of French. Lets see, apple will never add a superdrive to the ibook because it will suck away almost all powerbook sales ( intill the G5). Also, I don't agree with them on the release date on the powerbook G5's on September. It will probably come out early 2005. For the rest of it i can't understand; translation please.

New the 970fx finished passing the tests of qualification. The only

problem with the new composition of adhesive, is that the rates of

manufacture are poor. On Waffer several processors will pass has

2.4 and 2.6Ghz, and on other, there almost is not which reach

necessary the 2Ghz minimum. The production is enough just enough to

start to deliver the xServe 2x2Ghz. Steve Jobs will only decide to

announce G5 now or later. It is afraid to have still anticipated the

    sale of several months

I for one hope they don't add a G5 to the PowerBook just yet. The whole reason I switched to Apple back in '01 was because I needed a laptop and they had the best battery life in the business, and they're so darn quiet. To this day I can't stand when the fan kicks on in my PowerBook.

I'd like them to wait on the G5 until they're at LEAST as energy-efficient as the G4s are. Especially since I'm thinking of replacing my 15" PB with a 12" within the next month or so.

I have the 1.25Ghz 15inch PowerBook and it is quiet, but has terrible battery life. I hope for your sake that they fix this on the rev. B line.
