New processor upgrades at long last!!!
Phew!! I was starting to wonder if anyone was gonna get their hands on the newer G4's but now that Powerlogix has announced their G4 upgrade cards up to 1 Ghz I'm very happy!! So first up, who's going to upgrade? I am! But I have a question to those in the know; Do you think my Cube/450 will need a fan if I put in say, a 800Mhz card? Esp since I want to put in a Geforce2 MX at the same time....? Thanks
Comments
The only comany I remember that offered large caches on their upgrades was Met@Box/JoeCard, and they didn't last long. I bought an upgrade from them once and I liked it a lot.

If you look at the picture of the new card on Powerlogix home page you will see that the card itself has a fan attached. I don't think you will have a choice in the matter.

So I guess the Blue and White G3s are never going to be faster than 500mhz?
As for B/W. I think we will see G3 @ 800+ Mhz. Putting a G4 into a B/W isn't really worth it.
1GHz would be lovely, but if the price is right, 750MHz with, say, a 2MB L3 cache would be a nice upgrade for my 450 Cube.
Oh crap. How much are these things gonna cost?
Hopefully some overclocking features will be present.
EDIT:

Well screw that.

So it should be possible to run the old 100 MHz bus AGPs up to 1.4 GHz. It gives a CPU/bus speed ratio of 14 comparable to the ratio of 15 of the dual gig G4 (1000+1000/133=15)
I have a G4/400 AGP myself and when it will feel to slow a 550 MHz upgrade will still be to slow. At least a 800 MHz upgrade will be needed!
I started getting second thoughts about getting a Radeon 8500 card if the there was no CPU upgrades in the forseeable future but now I have changed my mind
There is no Al T. Veck
Pismo upgrades? I would consider that, perhaps.

I say "supposed" because he has not provided an email address. He just puts powerlogix.com at the end of his posts. But he seems to know things.

Dual 1 GHz Cube?!?!?
I'd like fries and a Coke, too!
Must find cheap Cube......

The only main difference is no AGP, and I can live with that, I'm looking into a Radeon PCI.
In short, PowerLogix would sell a LOT of B/W upgrades. I'd buy the fastest possible.
There are no cheap cubes on ebay....any more!!!

Well, PowerLogix just granted your wish for a Pismo G4 upgrade. The $300 price is certainly tempting. And you get to keep the versatility of double expansion bays. Much better than buying an older TiBook, IMHO.

[edit: I'm impressed. They ship it to a firm to do it for you! still for $300. Not bad.]

Sawtooth mobo supports MPX and double the bandwidth (400MBps vs. 800MHz). The 133MHz mobo's support 1.0GBps. Also the 745X series has problems with the MPC106 memory controller which is why they will never be made for it. But there is no reason the 750FX could not be made for it, You would just have to design a proper ZIF card. (and over clocking could be done through software!)
There are NO rumors! MWNY must have something we didn't see coming... (ie "Beyond the Rumor Sites, Way Beyond! lol)
