Now, start pushing that option down the line, Apple. A 12" iBook with SuperDrive would be the best educational machine on Earth.
I completely agree. That's the only thing stopping me from getting a 12" iBook G4. The 14" is to damned big for me. My friend had a G3 14" iBook and it was so f*cking bulky I couldn't believe it.
Thanks on the tip with the iBook lit Apple--didn't notice it in the store.
The first time I noticed it on a powerbook was at a Raveonettes concert. Looked really cool glowing at center stage, cranking out awesome sounds :-)(http://www.theraveonettes.com/).

Heh. It's sorta hard to see either laptop line's light in the broad daylight. It's best seen in the dark of the night.
This only affected a previous G3 revision of iBooks. The iBook G4 doesn't have the same problem.
My point is that Apple isn't as concerned about quality control with the iBooks and iMacs as they are with the PowerBooks and PowerMacs. If there were widespread hardware failures with pro machines, they'd get lawsuits for lost work due to the failure. With consumer machines, they just get a bunch of annoyed people who can't check their email. I think if there is another widespread chronic hardware failure, it will most likely affect iMacs or iBooks.
-_-;; I know. I was just making a comparisson. I'm betting that the iBook G4 would have the same problem.. but that's just me I guess.
Actually the iBook G4 is very decent. With airport extreme on, browsing the internet with occasional file sending and watching some short clips I once got 4 hours and 40 minutes.
So it seems to me that 6 hours is not impossible especially if it's just typing.
Now, start pushing that option down the line, Apple. A 12" iBook with SuperDrive would be the best educational machine on Earth.
Anyone notice that the claimed battery life on iBooks is 6 hours again?
When you say educational machine, you mean for individual students/college right? I mean, because for public schools, there isn't really a need for super drives on the computers for students... although it would be nice

Maybe it's better on the iBooks, but I know on the powerbooks, PC's can get better reception because of the external antenna. PC's have built in antenna's too, which are just as good I think. I wish I got better reception sometimes, but all in all it's pretty good.

Isn't it always free on computers...or purchases over a certain amount? They always just say that as a perk to make it look better I believe.
The HP printer rebate...when I download the .pdf it gives me a rebate form for a Lexmark printer, the HP one is nowhere to be found. Anyone have an idea what that's all about?

I know that PC's have internal antenna too and that external ones can produce better results. In my experience the antenna in the screen have produced really solid results. As with all wireless technologies and reception YMMV.

But I would look so cool walking into class and pulling that 14' iBook out of my bag to take notes.
This is so hard to resist. Someone give me a reason not to do it! Hurry, my clicking finger is getting itchy! 8)
Don't do it man! Remember the logic board fiasco! Buy a PowerBook instead. Oh wait, you don't have the money to. I guess you'll just have to wait.
Hope this helps... or at least, I hope it doesn't make you go into even greater debt by buying a PowerBook instead

6 hours battery life my ass! Even when my iBook G3 was new it only lasted 4 hours tops. I don't find those estimates accurate enough...

If portability is of importance, the 14" iBook really is the worst. Absolutely no kidding.

Notice I say iBook G4. You do NOT have an iBook G4.
Think before you type.

I do hope you realize that is as a $200 option. It's not standard.

They do not say what G4 processor is used so the 7447A mystery continues.
