450 MHz G3 iMac Indigo DV special edition.--Got for Christmas in 2000 I think. My brother Andy uses it exclusively.
450 MHz G4 Cube--Got it that same Christmas (it was a good Christmas) and am now selling it on eBay 3 years later.
iMac 800 MHz G4 w/a Superdrive--Got it at its introduction in 2002 and have been using it exclusively. My parents and little brother will now be using it because I just got a...
15'' PowerBook G4 @1.5 GHz w/a Superdrive and the works.--I'll be using this one for a long time, through college maybe.
Dad has a 15'' 500 MHz G4 PowerBook for work.
Brother Pat has a 15'' 1 GHz G4 PowerBook.
Brother Nick has a 12.1'' Indigo iBook @333MHz G3.
Dec. 1995: Our first Mac, a Performa 5200/75 with an 800 MB hard drive, a 4x CD-ROM drive, a whopping 8 Megs of RAM and a "Super Drive". No kidding here, at that time Apple sold it's 1.44 MB floppy drive as "Super Drive". Man, times have been changing... Later on we upgraded it to 40 MB RAM.
April 1999: The second Macintosh, a Rev. A iMac. 233 MHz, 4 GB, and (I think) 64 Megs of RAM. Memory has also been upgraded in that Mac, today it has 196 MB.
August 2000: A blueberry Rev. C iMac, this is the first machine that I owned (the previous two were bought by my father). Originally it had a 6 GB hard drive and 128 Megabytes RAM, upgraded that to 60 GB and 384 MB. This is the only Macintosh in our family that isn't in use any more (had to sell it *sniff*)
Dec. 2002: My current Mac made it's way into my hands. An iBook g3/800. Unfortunately it belongs to the series that contained the motherboard bug that Apple set up the repair program for. Also, CD-Rs are burned at 4x only while the iBook has a 16x drive (another commonly known bug, although Apple doesn't admit it).
May 2004: At the end of this month (or in June) I'm going to buy the top-notch eMac
The Performa is still used by my mother, the Rev. A iMac is used by my father to do eMail and Internet stuff.
My brother also owns a Mac (PM G4/800), which he bought in 2002 (or 2003, not sure) and uses it mainly for "digital hub" stuff, like listening to (and creating) music and managing his photographs.
1. 1.25GHz 15" SuperDrive aluminum PowerBook, bought last October 24 (the night of the Panther rollout) at the Atlanta Lenox Mall Apple Store. I saved and bought it (selling 15" G4 iMac certainly helped).
2. iMac DV (400MHz, tangerine) that I bought in February 2000. It spent some time with a friend in SoCal and Indiana after I bought a G4 LCD iMac in March 2002. The person using it bought herself an iBook this past winter and I got my orange jellybean back!
Life is good.
I'd give anything to somehow get it outfitted with a 1GHz G4, 32MB graphics and a slot-loading Combo Drive, making it a little more modern and Panther/iLife 04 friendly.
If only I could take the guts from a previous generation eMac (the model before this recent update?) and stuff them in there somehow...power AND lickability.
I have a beautiful Dual 1.25GHz PowerMac (mirrored drive doors).
? 1.5GB RAM
? 2 HD's 120GB & 40GB that I got at a swap meet.. It beeps every now and then.. I figure it's just giving me the 'ok'.. Yeah.. That's what it's doing...
Are you getting spontaneous freezes on your Mac, Jimzip?
You might want to swap your RAM chips for new ones. Are you still under AppleCare? You might need to bring your Mac in for a motherboard replacement. If your Mac beeps at you on startup that means there's a memory-related hardware failiure on your Mac.
I'm telling you this because a bad 512 MB RAM upgrade caused my otherwise superb G4/400 to start beeping on me. Then it started to spontaneously freeze for no reason at all. To make a long story short I had to reformat my dual hard drives several times due to several hard crashes. I'm pretty sure it's a motherboard-level failiure, since I've done numerous swaps with good RAM chips with no effect.

Thanks for the heads up.. But I'm afraid it's the dodgy HD I got at a swap meet that beeps! It's while the computer is running too, so I don't think I'll be buying any more hardware from swapmeets..
Actually, now that you mentioned it, I bought a 512MB stick at a swapmeet too, and it worked fine for a few months, then things began to randomly crash all the time. I removed the RAM stick, and presto! Everything is fine. Haven't had any crashes since..
Thanks anyway though!
By the way mattyj, that's quite a setup.. I'm guessing you mostly use the dual 1GHz, (from the soundsticks ) !
PowerBook G3 (Lombard) 400 Mhz purchased online via Apple Store. I'm waiting for the next rev of the G5's. Can't wait. 5 years in between upgrades is a long time.
