audio/video input

in Current Mac Hardware edited January 2014
I would like to be able to input video from an analog source (such as a vcr or television) as well as audio from analog/digital sources (such as from an old-fashioned tape player or a DAT player.

Can I get one input device to handle all these things, or will I need a sound card and a video card?

My main purpose right now is to convert audio information from tapes to digital wav or mp3 format so that I can put it on an iPod. For example, the lectures from a class I take are on tape. What's the easiest way to get the tape transfered to the ipod? <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

Thanks for your help
