Ah - just remembered another good coffee experience. I visited Seattle with some friends for the first time this past spring break, and that is THE place for coffee in America. If you're in the area, go to Pike's Place and find the really odd donut vendor selling fresh, tiny donuts. Get a cup of coffee (espresso) from him. Ponder for a moment why it is in such a small cup, then take a sip.
Wow.
You will experience a clearing of the sinuses like you have never felt before. THAT is some gooood coffee. 8)

AAAAAAAAAA!
I know *EXACTLY* the stall you're talking about! It's, um... four down from the newsstand on the right side as you enter the main entrance! There's a creperie next to it! I used to live in Belltown (5th & Vine, Davenport Bldg - I managed and oversaw the renovation back to the original art deco style ), and would walk down to Pike Place, grab a banana and nutella crepe, and a doppio from the donut guy, and go watch the sun rise on the balcony directly towards the water. The sun rose behind me, so the light hit the peaks of the Olympics across Puget Sound first, turning them pink and orange, then it would slide down the range, then across the Sound. I'd watch the light show as the fishing boats and tugs would start their day in earnest, and I'd listen to the sounds of the city waking up behind me.
What, you go to Starbuck's!? Chain whore! Don't you know how they displace the small etc. etc. blah blah blah?
Actually, according to a WSJ arcticle not that long ago (last year or so), the exact OPPOSITE is true. When a Starbucks opens in a given neighborhood, traffic to other (smaller) coffee shops INCREASES. The article generally attributed it to heightened "awareness" generated by the Starbucks. *where is the shrugging smiley?!*
Personally, I'll take a small vendor over a Starbucks when I can. We were in Fort Worth (that's in Texas) over the Thanksgiving holidays, and not only did I have to give the bariestta directions on how to make my husbands 2 and 2 (extra potent Americano), I had to actually poor the water in myself. \
Otherwise, in answer to the basic question: when I order out, I like a double short latte with vanilla. But shorts are hard to get around here, so I end up with a double tall.
At home, I make a double shot of espresso and an equal amount of nuked milk. Okay, not exactly purist, but I get up at 5 am; do you have any idea the potential consequences of trying to steam milk that early in the am?
I drink drip when there is nothing else--with plenty of milk.
I have my own Espresso maker . . . and since, in a former life, I was an Espresso jocky tutored by the Best latte maker in San Francisco, I make an excellent extra foamy quardruple-double-Latte!!
I also have Frozen Enema packs for when I am in a hurry: simply pop in the microwave to warm, but not too hot!! and then lube up and BOING . .
But really I like almost any coffee as long as it is GREAT coffee!!!
I do love Denny's style stuff . . . but I don't think of it as coffee . . . it isn't . . . its 'Joe' . . . I love it cause it really torques you and gets you jittery at about one and a half pots . . .

In my town we have an extremely robust cafe scene in the pre-starbucks days. Once starbucks came along it all changed.
What's strange now is that it has essentially leveled off, with a starbucks essentially right across the street from each of the 3 remaining cafes. I don't really understand it, but then again, I've never really understood how cafes make money anyway. \
I feel really sick if i drink coffee because it is way too strong for my fvcked up bowels. Even a drop of it can make me sick. This was only since i had a major e-coli disease or someting a few years ago.
It's just that other people also have tried to get that address from me, Kicks. I resist their pleading without mercy. It's hard enough to get rental weeks in the summer at these "one of a kind" places as it is, without adding to the clamor of competition.
BUT... every time I go to the Pacific Northwest I look for cottages in good locations...possible fix-er uppers. The plan would be to have a place on the coast for the summer, and where I am already for the winter. Well...I've achieved *half* the plan, anyway.
I'd like another up in the mountains in the state where I live...possibly a log cabin. I already have it designed in my mind - down to highly specific details.
Don't get flashes of Misery. Coercion is only fun if you like that sort of thing. Of course, *you* probably WOULD - I can see it all now. hahaha.
"Help, help! Untie me," he shouts with gleeful laughter, obviously 'not' wishing to be untied.

Yes, but how many of them can ban you?

Dammit, I want the location and phone number to reserve!
Aahhh, my dear one, the place is a well-guarded secret.
But if you let me blindfold you during the drive there, you can come stay with me for a few days.
(You'll have to lose the wife though.
(...temporarily, I mean...of course. heh

Once in awhile, home ground beans.
