"How can your simple PowerBook to iMac solution be better than streaming high resolution MPEG2/MPEG4 videos to a large Plasma display, or listen to your song collections on the 5.1 surrond sound speakers? Have you ever tried watching your iPhoto collections (I have my whole life digitized) on the large TV? Everybody coming to my house asked me where can I get the device when I show them my daughter's pictures."

    - Allow me to clarify. I have all of that now. My PB is connected to my TV and my 6.1 surround sound system so I can view video, the web, iPhoto slideshows, and listen to my FULL iTunes library.

The only challenge is that OSX wasn't designed to be controlled via remote from across the room.

    OK you win.

But my TV is not next to my Mac, all are stream via WIFI.

And yes, I can access it via remote control.

And yes, the UI is designed to work nice on TV - I can just press 1, 2, 3 on remote control and do all the things, on my Sofa.

My Mac is not next to my TV, or at least the one hosting the content is not. A cheap old Pismo PB is serving up content to my home theater/sound system via Wi-Fi connection to my iMac, which houses my full 20+GB music library etc.

It does more than an EyeHome etc. (plays protected AAC's, allows you to view all files/folders, even play games on the Big Screen) The only limitation is that it's still a traditional computer, and not designed to be remote-controlled via a TV interface (Big buttons, simple layout, no menus). I was hoping to find an app that would run on the PB and provide that sort of streamlined veiw of my content, but an exhaustive search turned up nothing.

Here's hoping Steve and the gang at Apple recognize that the DIGITAL ENTERTAINMENT lifestyle revolves around both activities (TV & Computer) and there is a need to blend them. Not in a single device, but rather with device that bridge the gap. Like the iPod, which bridges the gap between PC-based music and music where it's most often listened to: on the road.

Don't get me started on the need for a fully-integrated iPod automobile dock/stereo etc. Imagine sliding the iPod into a dash-mounted XM/AM/FM/CD stereo and getting access to the full library & controls. Imagine hearing a song on the radio and being able to hit a button that tags it and saves the info to the iPod, which then searches for the song on iTunes when reconnected. These are the things I want.

For many, this is where the fun is. In front of TV, you should be sitting in sofa, using a remote, use it LIKE a TV.
