Being no friend of Bush, I must admit that he doesn't appear drunk to me. It's kinda wierd that he jokes about a guy not being fun because he doesn't drink, but so what.
That said, you'd get more traction on his hypocrisy with the DUI stuff. That story was burried.
One other thing, regarding alcoholics not being able to drink at all. I believe that is only an American thing, largely promulgated by the religious right and those clinics that make money off it. In the rest of the drinking world they treat it as a behavioral problem, not an addiction, and problem drinkers do learn how to drink in moderation.

This is wrong. Alcoholism is treated as a permanent illness throughout Europe; this is the fundamental basis of any credible approach.

I'm going off of memory from a 20/20 broadcast on the subject, but I distinctly remember them talking about the drastically different approach europe takes toward alcoholism. All I could find on the web without having to pony up $20 for a transcript is the following, but it doesn't mention the approach in europe...
My memory is usally pretty good, so I'm not going to pay the $20 bucks to make sure I remembered it right. Especially since the dogmatism in your statement gives me pause. I'm not sure if you meant to imply that total abstinence is the only way (this is demonstrably untrue as many people have recovered from alcoholism without abstaining) or simply that alcoholics must always be aware of a susceptibility to abuse alcohol.
