Why does Rush Limbaugh get apparently exclusive rights to Armed Forces Radio?

Rush Gets to tell the troops about the evil Democrats But the Dems can say nothing about how the Repubs are getting the soldiers killed for Ideological reasons

It seems strange that Rush Limbaugh can go on and on at the mouth about how Democrats are Anti American and hate soldiers and how feminists are Nazis, how the torture and apparent murder of over nine detainies is just a prank, how he can continue to lower American Soldier's standards of conduct, and more . . . and have these programs sent to all of the over-seas troops on the Official Armed Forces Radio, EXCLUSIVELY and paid for BY US the American tax-payer, with no counter-balancing voice allowed on the air!!!

Why?

Howard Stern is more popular . . . . but he is critical of Bush. Is that why he can't be on the air: after all, Limbaugh's talk about torture being today's pornography is more indecent than Stern?

It seems to me that it is Propaganda . . . Rush is not a 'mere entertainer' he is the loudest mouthpiece of the neo-con PR machine, he has moved the center of debate to the far-right . . .and now he is telling the American Soldier that those who feel that the Administration screwed them over are being unpatriotic . . . he is being treasonous IMO, by turning Soldier's opinions against half of America . . . and he is doing this on the American taxpayers dime!!

Why?

The "why" is obvious. The important question is "how", as in "How are they getting away with this?" and "How do we stop them from getting away with this?".

The only fair solutions are that either Rush is ruled out, or a broad spectrum of voices are ruled in.

Because. Powers in control see no reason to risk their postion in the name of fairplay. Besides. It's not as though smart people don't see through this BS. Equal access to the media is certainly not a right.

He was put on during the Clinton admin. Blame Bill for allowing only this one Neo-Con chicken-hawk on without a counter view point. Send the pentegon and Rummy an letter (not an e-mail) pointing out Rush's disgusting comments as of late to get him off the air.

NPR isn't available outside the US, Rush is. I could listen to Rush while in Sasebo, but not NPR.

[edit] In retrospect, NPR was available... Not over the radio though. NPR was via cable.

I was responding to the point that rush gets access to gov. radio with no lib response: it simply isnt true, I wasnt commenting to the availibility of it outside this country, and as for AFR, they only have a fineite amount of time like any broadcast outlet, they give what the troops want, if huge nombers of troops complained about rush, he would be pulled, and if the oppisit was true and they had tons of requests for him, he would be on as happened in the mid '90s

and it is a well known fact that the millitary leans to the right of center, why do you think Al Gore didnt want the military absentee ballots counted in 2000

I listen to NPR and lately ALL that I have heard is non-stop Neo-cons getting their say.

NPR bends over backwards to make sure that you know that they too can be Neo-con.

Could it be because the soldiers don't want to hear anyone disparaging their commander. Soldiers, for the most part, are "funny" about that. It might also have a lot about moral while they are in peril.

These are just thoughts that I have.

Yeah . . . except when the lack of critical statements of the commander means detriment to the United States itself . . . hence ZINNI and others like him.

One possible (and likely IMO) explanation for why Flush is allowed to dominate AFR... the director of programming is an idiot. No word on whether he's big or fat....

uh, c'mon now. NPR is among a few media outlets that asks tough questions and maintains a high level of journalistic integrity. if you can cite examples of a clear bias within the network, feel free. NPR has commentary from conservatives, republicans, democrats, greens, the whole bag.

    Recent NPR study.

    Quote:

Despite the commonness of such claims, little evidence has ever been presented for a left bias at NPR, and FAIR?s latest study gives it no support. Looking at partisan sources?including government officials, party officials, campaign workers and consultants?Republicans outnumbered Democrats by more than 3 to 2 (61 percent to 38 percent). A majority of Republican sources when the GOP controls the White House and Congress may not be surprising, but Republicans held a similar though slightly smaller edge (57 percent to 42 percent) in 1993, when Clinton was president and Democrats controlled both houses of Congress. And a lively race for the Democratic presidential nomination was beginning to heat up at the time of the 2003 study.

Partisans from outside the two major parties were almost nowhere to be seen, with the exception of four Libertarian Party representatives who appeared in a single story (Morning Edition, 6/26/03).

Republicans not only had a substantial partisan edge, individual Republicans were NPR?s most popular sources overall, taking the top seven spots in frequency of appearance. George Bush led all sources for the month with 36 appearances, followed by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld (8 ) and Sen. Pat Roberts (6). Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, Secretary of State Colin Powell, White House press secretary Ari Fleischer and Iraq proconsul Paul Bremer all tied with five appearances each.

    Quote:

FAIR?s four-month study of NPR in 1993 found 10 think tanks that were cited twice or more. In a new four-month study (5/03?8/03), the list of think tanks cited two or more times has grown to 17, accounting for 133 appearances.

FAIR classified each think tank by ideological orientation as either centrist, right of center or left of center. Representatives of think tanks to the right of center outnumbered those to the left of center by more than four to one: 62 appearances to 15. Centrist think tanks provided sources for 56 appearances.

    Emphasis mine.

Not that Liberal is it with Reps outnumbering Dems over 3 to 2.

oh yeah and here is another one: General Joseph Hoar, the former head of the Marine Corps, said "I believe we are absolutely on the brink of failure. We are looking into the abyss."
