Anybody Know When the New 17" iMac Ships?

I ordered mine two weeks ago, and I'm getting impatient! Does anybody know when they start shipping?

I thought I heard Steve say "two weeks from today" at the keynote, which would be today or tomorrow. I am sick of checking my order status page only to see "Being Assembled." Somehow I know that it doesn't take that long to build a PC.

    No lock, only a move.

I am writing a little script here... anyone posting an in before the lock message instantly gets their post counts halved.

I'm getting a little impatient too, Scifience. I'm getting awfully tired of looking at the Being Assembled logo.

    *sigh*....

I upgraded the RAM to 512...but I wouldn't think that could possibly delay it much, since all you have to do is pop in a RAM module.

Stock. I won't get Apple to upgrade the RAM until they start bundling Vaseline with BTOs.

Geez man I hear ya, I really wish when Apple released new hardware they'd already have the shelves stocked and waiting for us. Looking at the Apple Store online has moved the status of the iMac's shipping from 2-4 weeks when I ordered to 3-4 weeks. Oh where oh were can my 17" iMac be?

Well I think yours still ought to be on track for 2-4 weeks from when you ordered. "3-4 weeks" only applies to those who order now. Those who got in line earlier will not have to wait that long, I think/hope.

I ordered mine on July 17th, but the order status shows order date of July 19th. I upgraded the ram to a single 512 DIMM, but I wouldn't think that would take longer to ship.

I also ordered a new 10 GB iPod...which also had a 2-4 week shipping estimate.

I hope "Two Weeks" isn't like "This Summer" or "Early Next Year". That would suck, but I keep checking status multiple times a day, and I get excited when I have new mail hoping it's from Apple confirming shipment....

    *sigh*

I know exactly what you mean. My iPod (not a new one) just arrived, and since this 17-incher will be my first Apple, I don't have anything to hook it up to and test it out. I am sick sick sick of my PC.

Yea, when I ordered the 17" iMac I also put in for the new 10 GB iPod, and the iRock Wireless thing-a-ma-bob for car listening. Welp, at least the iRock Device thing came. No iMac, no iPod, and i'm on a borrowed machine right now :-) Have they started shipping new iMacs at all? Are they due in at the Apple Retail Stores next week?

MacNetv2 claims that they have started shipping, and Apple.com is now quoting a 1-2 day shipping timeframe. Yesssss.

I just called Apple, and the rep told me that the iPods are closer to shipping than the 17" iMacs. He said that they have shipped some to retail stores, and my iPod should ship any day now, but it will be another week before my iMac ships. I hope his words are not lies, because I work in technical support, and I know that people just say things sometimes. Meaning that either could ship sooner or later than what he said... <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

Where did you see this on Apple's web site? I just checked now and it says 3-4 weeks on a new order.

WTF!!!! Now it says 3-4 weeks. This afternoon it said 1-2 days!!! Here's a picture to prove it.

It doesn't p!ss me off that apple has to wait 3 weeks, but it does make me mad when they raise our hopes like this. It isn't fair, not to mention false advertising.

I would sue them, but: 1, I'm too lazy 2, I don't have money for a lawer 3, I love apple too much to take legal action against them.

I forgot to check the edu store (my mom is a school board member). They do say 3-5 days, but I'd be skeptical.
