Big fan of socially conscious hip-hop-- but not so much regular hip hop. I don't know whether I just don't like it aesthetically or whether the "bling-bling" content of most hip-hop today turns me off.
I went to see the Happy Mondays three times on the Pills, Thrills and Bellyaches tour with Stereo MC's opening all the shows. Let's just say they were all awesome!
I never saw the Mondays live, unfortunately. But I did see the Carpets (at the Palace in Hollywood) and the New Fads (at the Whisky). Both were incredible. I met the Carpets at a "meet and greet" before the show, too. Clint is an absolute gentleman.
Never got to see the Carpets and wish I could at least find my Plane Crash EP that I had on cassette. Anyway, just got tickets to a Ramones Memorial/Cancer fundraising show featuring Blondie and the Strokes.
Until he thought he could actually sing. He has a really good wail, but these days he just sings all of these dopey-mopey songs, and just comes off like a mumbly dullard with warbly pitch and miserable elocution. But with that said, I like a lot of the soundgarden songs.
On the topic of painful singing, I just listened to a King Diamond block.

Your Woman - White Town
it's really nice judas priest cover
"Vertigo"
The verses are pretty cool-- chorus seems to fall a little flat-- and the guitar riffs seem stolen off the vines' "get free."
Not too enthusiastic really.
Seems like their weakest first single ever.
Maybe it'll grow on me.
goddamn, i love chris cornell
Sonic Youth - 'Beauty Lies in the Eye'
A.R. Kane - 'Sorry'
Half Man Half Biscuit - 'Secret Gig'
Naked City - 'Snagglepuss (live)'
Vikter Duplaix - 'Looking For Love (Bugz in the Attic Remix)'
The Fall - 'Feeling Numb'
Moonshake - 'Drop in the Ocean'
Carl Craig's 69 - 'Desire'
Palace Brothers - 'The Cellar Song'
McLusky - 'Dave, Stop Killing Prostitutes'
(My iPod seems to have a preference for McLusky. Maybe 25 or 30 of the 2,500 or so songs on there are by them, but it keeps playing them.)
