i think the cost of adding such stuff to a walkman (let's face it) is prohibitive, at this time.

no way would i pay an extra $30 for gps -- and i'm not alone.

go online, look at any road map of new orleans. we are built on the final big turn of the mississippi river, and as such, there isn't a friggin rectangular block in the city. all directions have to be given based on connecting streets and landmarks.

yet when i lived in toronto, a canadian city, you could navigate with an etch-a-sketch...

please know of what you speak before you speak. we're not all manhattan...

whooooo there horsey...... no need to get uptight, I din't mean to tick you off.... geeeezzzz..... Fact remains that the roadmaps I've seen of the americas and even the devision of states seemed very "square" to me. And that doesn't mean I THINK THAT SUCKS, it is just an observation. Of course you are subject to natural boundaries and need to build your cities accordingly.

Relax on the edge there, not everyone outside the US means you harm ok?

Anywho..... I'd still like to see all those functions integrated into one handheld device. I wish apple would make it because then it prolly wouldn't suck as bad as when others do it, plus I'd be assured I could sync it to mac....

Of course I realise this is not the iPod...

BUT I SURE WISH IT WOULD BE THE POWERPOD ! ! !

    *sighs*

You are assuming that people are buying them BECAUSE they have HDs. I do not. I assume they are buying them because they store 10,000 songs. They don't care HOW. That's what I am saying. I think Apple knows this well.

According to the cover of "that" magazine, the iPod will look more like the original iPods in that it will have the scrolling wheel surrounded by buttons for menu, etc. They will probable announce that ut will also be available with a 60 GB HD. As far as the new way to announce it, I think that's an unknown at this time. We'll find out soon enough. If we are kucky, maybe they'll announce lower prices as well!

It's all spelled out in the Newsweek article. Mini-like click-wheel. Thinner. Better battery. Better UI. 20GB and 40GB. $299 and $399.

From TS ... "Apple will offer the new models at lower prices; the 40GB unit will ship for $399 and the 20GB model will sell for $299, a $100 reduction in price. Apple will no longer sell a 15GB model, Newsweek says."

So $299 at the current exchange rate works out about GB£160.

Wonder if Apple will sell at this price in UK ... I doubt it \

Ever try navigating lower manhattan. The streets there were once cow paths. The grid doesn't start till you get fruther up the island.

Or queens or brooklyn. Gps here is useful too.

More likely it'll go from $299 to £299, and likewise from $399 to £399.

Living in the UK sucks sometimes.

    I know!

I have just noticed that on the Apple US Store, the 15Gb is retailing for $299 (£160)...

But as you say that translates to £299 on the UK store!

Yes, it is still too early for such a device.

Why burden people with the pain in the ass of dealing with cell activation for their music player? Which cell providers would support it? Which would insist you buy it from them? Those who don't want/need it will be saddled with paying for it. Personally, my cell phone gets battered and tossed about (mostly because it is the freebie that I got for signing up). It does its job well enough and I can replace it for cheap. Why would I want to worry about trashing a $400 cell phone *and* risk destroying my music player at the same time?

The GPS could be interesting but at what cost?

For myself (I speak for no others), I wanted a world class music player and there is only one choice. No other company has released a device that can match the iPod, let alone exceed it for what it does.
