I have no problem with what he did. The NFL is brutal on RBs' bodies. The NFL has no guaranteed contracts and the Dolphins could have cut hin tomorrow if he wanted to and they would not have had to pay him a dime. Only signing bonuses are guaranteed in the NFL. I don't buy the argument that there should be a loyalty to teams when teams don't have to be loyal to players.
Unfortunately he'll be remembered as a disappointment as an NFL player which really should not have been the case because he had the skills to be an All-Pro type. But if you look at his five years, only 2002 was really a very good season. The rest of his production was pretty pedestrian and his 4.0 ypc stat is in line with the NFL average. He'll be remembered much more for his college career and Heisman.
If you've ever seen Ricky during an interview, you know he's a lot more real than 99% of all NFL players. He can actually, you know, speak like a normal human being.
I also love the fact that he maintains his website entirely on his own.
Every single article about Ricky in the last couple of years has mentioned his depression, so I'm really not surprised. Anybody who thinks his decision is "selfish" is fucked up.
