Yeah, except that Apple has gone on the record saying there would be no Powerbook G5 this year.

hey. some things are not as easily seen.maybe they are here, and if so, hi. i dunno, i still have a gut feeling apple was trying to project a supercomp in ur lap, not a supercomp on ur wall. its just not glamouros enough for apple.

Didn't apple go on record that they were having trouble with the G5 in a consumer machine? Here we are with the imac G5. Sure heat had to do with its delay. But, I see the yield problems with the 970fx as the main culprit.

I agree with monkeyastronaut. A supercomputer in your living room.

Don't you think it is a weird coincidence that HP rolled out all their consumer line of goodies today? Were they trying to beat Apple to the punch? Face it if Apple were to announce this stuff first, HP wouldn't get near as much press.

Perhaps some of the stuff to come out in Paris is home entertainment oriented stuff. Maybe there's a G5 based home entertainment system in the wings. It could be standalone or use Airport Express to share music and video. iCinema? Store and play music and video, surf the internet, do homework, etc. on your TV?

Perhaps the flat panel thing on the other thread is an Apple display to go with this new box?

Thank God we only have a few more days of this....

I just hope they don't disappoint us.

    How about...

A super computer on your desk.

A super computer in your hand.

That would work for the tablet or something else like pda but more powerful. Just a thought. On your wall, or in your living room are cool to me but it isn't for everyone. The iMac and the iPod are geared toward a larger market than the pro products. It could be something as simple as

A super computer on your desk.

A super computer for everyone / everyone else.

The iMac is for the vast majority of users and they could give it a really low entry price.

Wasn't the G5 originally dubbed the first consumer super computer? This was seen as a stretch by some as it was for pros and not really consumers, etc.

Isn't this ad really in that same thinking? Is it only really stating that the new iMac is a super computer, for the desk of the home or more average user?

They will be saying that the iMac is a super computer won't they?

That's all I think this ad is saying.

How about a G3 PDA? Powerful enough for PDA standards. Supercomputer in your hand.

Kickaha and Amorph couldn't moderate themselves out of a paper bag. Abdicate responsibility and succumb to idiocy. Two years of letting a member make personal attacks against others, then stepping aside when someone won't put up with it. Not only that but go ahead and shut down my posting priviledges but not the one making the attacks. Not even the common decency to abide by their warning (afer three days of absorbing personal attacks with no mods in sight), just shut my posting down and then say it might happen later if a certian line is crossed. Bullshit flag is flying, I won't abide by lying and coddling of liars who go off-site, create accounts differing in a single letter from my handle with the express purpose to decieve and then claim here that I did it. Everyone be warned, kim kap sol is a lying, deceitful poster.

Now I guess they should have banned me rather than just shut off posting priviledges, because kickaha and Amorph definitely aren't going to like being called to task when they thought they had it all ignored *cough* *cough* I mean under control. Just a couple o' tools.

Don't worry, as soon as my work resetting my posts is done I'll disappear forever.

I'm guessing sites like the Mac Observer and others will offer coverage of the event. The event's day, you could check on Macsurfer.com to see all the sites providing coverage.

I do beleive the G4 was dubbed the first "super comp" when it came out, and that is why it couldn't be sold in certain countries...if you all remember. Why is Apple rehashing the same advert propaganda again?

The new G5 iMac is going to use all available 1.8 chips - TS is reporting delays in the 1.8 because of it. While there might be something in the 1.6 range I have a feeling that Apple will stay with just the iMac in terms of processor based products until they get over the hump with the G5 chip deliveries from IBM. There is no reason to release a G5 PB and then hold off deliveries until the April - June time frame. Plus, I don't believe they arte happy with the entire package at this time.

In 2005 (March - May) they could come out with a G5 PB and also boost the iBooks up significantly (1.6 - 2.0 and maybe even dual cores). then all hell would break loose!

    "A supercomputer for your desk....next?"

So what was that about? Did anything refer to a "supercomputer" in the keynote? Is this in reference to the iMac and if so, where (besides the chip, which the average consumer doesn't equate with "supercomputer") is the correllation?

SUPERCOMPUTER - A computer that is able to operate at a speed that places it at or near the top speed of currently produced computers. Most supercomputers cost millions of dollars, and the traditional model of using one large computer with proprietary hardware is being challenged by using a cluster of cheaper computers with more standard hardware.

    Does it qualify?
