The iMac offers the smallest footprint ever, but you can make that zero with an optional VESA mount. Hang it from the wall or swing it around on your desk. (Coming soon to the Apple store.)

That is for the adapter to make the iMac VESA compatible, not a mount by itself.

Is it not already VESA compatible? I didn't know it needed an adaptor...

Yes, that is for Cinema displays. I think the iMac VESA Mount (read the page it says MOUNT) will be a mounting kit.

It's just a VESA mounting plate for the back of the iMac, which will attach to a VESA arm... it doesn't include the arm itself. The "kit" refers to it including a tool to remove the iMac's foot for you to fix the mounting plate in its place.

Am I missing something on their website. I have not seen anything referring to it as a mounting plate. They have had those since the new Cinema Displays were announced but this is not even available yet. Is there a doc somewhere on their website or something describing it in detail?

I think it's slightly different to the Cinema Display one - probably in the way it's attached to the iMac and/or the tool for removing the foot. Both of the kits are the same price, however. This is the short description from the Apple Store:

"Allows your iMac G5 to be used with VESA compliant mounting solutions such as wall mounts and articulating arms."

So, yeah, it's just the mounting plate, not the arm.
