My point about the inability to jump was more of a plug not towards the limitations, but to the increased gameplay fun the bionic arm gave you.
And yes, it was probably well before I was born, if it was before February 1990.
Also, the GBC version had really satisfyingly lush and diverse environments. Sorry, but I like nice looking side-scrollers.
I meant no offense, just a bit of skepticism, since Bionic Commando was a NES game and not a SNES game. I haven't gotten any serious video game action since I was a teenager. . . basically right before N64 came out, and all the kids were playing Goldeneye. When you grow up with Nintendo and Genesis, playing your cousin's Atari or Intellivision didn't seem cool at all, regardless of how much he seemed to think it was awesome. I hypothesized the same about you and Bionic Commando, although I was not aware of the GameBoy version.
On a slight tangent, the best was using the bionic arm in the top-down intercept levels where it spun around and knocked guys out of the way. Then you could plaster them with the machine gun you picked up from Super Joe. Still, NHL is too hard to top. Its one of the few video games that got a lot of air time in Hollywood, particularly in Swingers, where it was worked into the plot. That was the 93 version, and yes, Roenick was damn good in that year's game.
I'd actually like to give Pokémon some credit as one of the most original Gameboy title. All of the marketing tie-ins, with the cards and the TV show, kinda killed it, but by itself, it was actually better than we give it credit for.
for sports games, anyone enjoy double dribble as much as i did? i could play a five minute game and pass like a demon all over the place and rack up points, always trying to beat my score. unfortunately, the game's graphics were in three colors... yellow, yellow-ish-green, and blue. but the game play was there.
tecmo bowl for the nes is another great one, except that the bears were ridiculously strong. i could beat anyone 70-0 with that team once you figured out that no one could beat your wideouts on the deep pattern.
recently, deus ex and diablo ii sucked MONTHS out of my life.
Anyone remember loderunner? Played that on a fair share of the original all in one macs. That was a cool little game. Hard to beat the original super mario on original nintendo though.
