Another Apple reseller bites the dust
Following an unfortunate turn of events, a longtime Apple reseller has decided to call it quits.
After gracefully serving the Macintosh community for the past 11 years, Apple reseller and specialist, The Mac Store, has closed its doors for the last time.
In message published on its website, the Cooper City, Fl.-based reseller cited a slow economy, recent hurricanes, break-ins, and a lack of Power Macs and iMacs as some of the factors that contributed to its demise.
"For the last 11 years, our customers have allowed me, and my staff to enter their personal lives and business," said Mac Store president Joel Lukacher. "Words cannot express how we will miss you all."
In addition to acting as a reseller of Macintosh products, the Mac Store was also listed as an authorized Apple Specialist--an honorable rating granted to resellers who share the highest commitment to the success of Apple's Macintosh operating system, the Macintosh computing platform and its surrounding products.
In September a team of 6 thieves used a car and a rope to yank the front door off the computer store. With hurricane Frances less than 24 hours away, the store's inventory had been wrapped in plastic and stored high as a safety precaution. As a result, the thieves were unable to locate the merchandise, and left empty-handed. Unfortunately, the store sustained considerable damage as a result of the break-in, which insurance did not fully cover.

As far as inventory goes, it is rather poor.
I don't see alot of stock of Macs at Comp USA and Microcenter.

Sorry to go off topic, but it Looks like MacMinute has totally STOLEN this story from Appleinsider as well. what a bunch of lame-o's over there. they are hijacking all of appleinsider's stories without credit including the jaguar ichat story, etc. As a source of one of the articles, I am totally pissed off.

that site has been stealing stories from appleinsider for a while now. i mailed them bitching a while ago, but received no response. i bet if they ever did respond, they'd claim that all the reports that they steal were not stolen but were public domain and that the fact that most of the stories they steal are published on appleinsider days after they happen, and only appear on macminute hours (or minutes) after appleinsider, is just a coincedince. i used to be in mac news, so I understand this. its very frustrating when people are not credited for their work. so i say F**K macminute. i think its good that people notice this, so what if it is off topic. they consistantly take stories from here. its not a once in a while thing, it happens all the time. they aren't going to stop. they are capitalist asshole pigs who feel they can get away with stealing.

The Mac Store was not a great and perhaps not even a good Macintosh store. The staff wasn't particularly friendly and there is a much better store nearby in Fort Lauderdale, Mac Center on Commercial Boulevard. There are two, soon to be three Apple stores in Miami-Dade with the northermost, the Aventura Mall store, being close enough for southern Broward residents to reach easily.
I will shed no tears for the Mac Store.

I'm sorry mr closet macminute publisher, either you admit that you steal your stories from here or you don't, but when you provide idotic reasoning such as this, you deserve to be slammed again. I think GloberTrotter put it well, above.

Secondly, and more importantly, I have to agree that we are not really losing out here in South Florida. The Mac Store was a very small store-front operation that for the most part seemed to act as a base for Joel's support and consulting business. There was little in the way of inventory and as has already been stated the staff was hardly what one could consider helpful or in some cases even friendly. I got the snotty, "We are better than you" treatment on more than one occasion. In a field where you are only a tiny part of the computer community you have to go out of your way to differentiate yourself. The Mac Store did nothing like this.
When I originally got into Apple it always made me wonder why all the big resellers and mail order magazines had no price differences on Macs, like you could goto macmall, macconnection, clubmac, and the apple store, and the price is the same (maybe off a buck or two).
Either way I hope the iMac will help expand the 3% share however Apple conducts its business

I haven't visited that Mac Center on Commerical Blvd in a while. Last time I was there, me and my brother were impressed w/ their customer service. For the longest time, I did not know it was there. It's location is tucked away in such an isolated place.
