Apple and U2 are just going to announce that Apple is the primary sponsor of the upcoming U2 concert and that the download version of the new album will be made exclusively through iTunes and that the iTunes version will have some bonus songs not on the retail version.

    No big deal

No 60 gig color super iPod. No world wide cross continent iTunes music store. No iPhoto (or iLife) for windows.

Well aren't you a party pooper? I would think if it was nothing big then Apple would just release the details on apple.com Other wise why get the press involved? U2 are big but they are not that big....

    From Forbes:

    "Bono's iPod

Matthew Miller, 10.18.04, 7:22 PM ET

NEW YORK - Rock band U2 has cut a deal with Apple Computer to sell custom iPods promoting the band's forthcoming album.

Sources close to the group say the U2 edition of the popular digital music player will come preloaded with the band's new album, How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, along with portions of the Irish supergroup's 25-year catalogue. The iPods will be black and will be made available the same week as the band's 11th studio album, which is slated to be released in the U.S. by Universal Music Group's Interscope Records on November 23."

A black iPod would be pretty cool.

(Unless you left it lying in the car all day, in which case it would be pretty hot...)

so, the whole front would be black, including the wheel?

if it came preloaded with music, Apple would have to update iTunes to allow for Music to be synced from iPod to iTunes... this would also work well with people who would buy an iPod+music from one of Apple's Airport-mini-stores. eh?

They only just updated the iPod line, I think it is too soon for them to release a colour screen 60 giger....

I say an announcement about iTMS Europe - Since U2 are from that way, and hopefully Australia and Canada (seeing as tho they are already telling us we can download u2 fromiTMS, which we can't as we don't have iTMS)

    Thats about it.

The recent minor upgrade gives us precisely zero insight as to wether another update is immanent.

Apple will release the alleged new color iPod when it is ready. They won't sit on a product if it is ready simply to spread out product releases and keep us forum geeks happy.

It is possible that they would sit on a product if they needed to clear the channel of existing mechandise. But this isn't the case with iPods, they're selling well no matter what.

The new iPods will be released no later than they're ready... possibly before.
